Why does ESPN.com still let a biased a$$hat write for them?

Every time I see a new Bill Simmons article, I roll my eyes, then proceed to read it to see what crap he's spewing forth about his precious Boston sports teams. Today, it's 100% shit about how him and his father obviously have absolutely no faith in their team, and how they, as lifelong fans, somehow deserve some kind of payback in the form of a championship for buying tickets all these years.

If that wasn't bad enough, I then read the most ignorant statement I've seen from him ever:

It's also worth mentioning that some soulless Boston fan sold his two courtside seats right next to the Boston bench to two obnoxious L.A. fans who wore yellow Lakers jerseys and were hopefully beaten up after the game.

What an ignorant ass. When any Boston team is doing bad, the world is caving in around him and is out to get him. When any Boston team is doing good, him, his father, and every Boston fan deserve to be in the limelight due to their loyalty, like they are owed something.

The point of this thread? I hate him.

What?! Simmons is awesome. He's a total homer for Boston teams, but he's hilarious and one of my favorite reads on the net.

You sir, lack knowledge of funny.

I was expecting Scoop Jackson.

Although, I do agree with you about Simmons. The only Page 2 writer worth reading is Easterbrook and, surprise surprise, he's the only one that can actually write successfully about non-sports topics as well.

Funny, I think Easterbrook is an unfunny, terrible version of Simmons.

I think the people that hate him (Simmons) take him too seriously. Read his article about the myths of the Boston / LA rivalry, for example. The other thing I like about him is that he really knows his stats, numbers, and history.

Simmons is hillarious and you're being a whiny little bitch. He's a Page 2 columnist, it's like you're complaining about the journalistic integrity of whoever writes the back page of the NY Post going downhill.

Also, if Scoop Jackson hasn't started a black version of the KKK yet, he's at the very least got some newsletters printed. That is the most racist guy I've ever seen on a semi-mainstream publication.

Simmons is funny. He's biased, he expresses the irrationality of fans, and that sort of thing is fine. He never pretends to be an unbiased "news" source.

Easterbrook is a total LOON and an anti-semite.

Oh noes! He made a slightly-vague Jewish reference so he MUST be anti-semite!

Gregg Easterbrook is a great at what he does-- which is write funny, informative, and sometimes irreverant weekly football columns.

I very, very rarely find him funny. He is a conspiracy nut at best.

Sorry but I don't find it interesting to read his "articles" and I imagine most of his "readers" skip to the cheerleader pictures.

EDIT: There was nothing unclear about his remarks either. Enough so that he was booted from ESPN at the time.

He only thinks he is.

I liked his writing the first couple of times, but he's like a one-dimensional comedian that can't come up with new material. After awhile, he just gets stale. It's probably a good thing they don't have comments enabled for him, because it would be like all the DJ Gallo hate times 10.

I like how I've suddenly become "whiny" after simply stating my distaste for a man who wants fans of the other team "beaten up". Just saying that Simmons is a crybaby asshole whose biased and less-than-blog-worthy write-ups don't belong as the main story of ESPN.com.

I don't expect anything less from you, you're just like him. Your legendary quote in the Super Bowl thread before the game started just makes me smile anytime I see you trying to defend your precious Boston teams.

Well ESPN has it with red sox and yankees. That one old guy on espn, peter gammons always raves about the red sox. It is sickening listening to that geezer.

I like how its considered a bad team to write passionately about your home team. He doesn't pretend to be unbiased, he's a Boston guy (note: his website was www.bostonsportsguy.com before ESPN hired him. In fact, you can still go to that site and it will redirect you to his Page2 page).

And the reason they put his stuiff on the ESPN home page all the time is that he's ridiculously popular. His stuff gets many times the # of hits as any other Page2 columnist.

he doesn't hide that he's a boston fan at all, and he's funny

his article on NBA GM's is one of the funniest things I've ever read
