Why does 'DELTREE \WINDOWS' take so long?

I use it to wipe out Windows so I can reinstall it. Doesn't it simply mark the FAT to indicate the file is gone?

It is a huge task because the \Windows tree is so layered. It has to do every sub-folder and verify it. Why are you reinstalling? That is such a cop out solution in my book. If you are running XP, and have a problem, have you tried System Restore?

It is likely you are not running a disk caching program, i.e. Smartdrive. I have had it take over 15 minutes to delete the Windows directory when I had no disk caching program running.
