Why does communist music have to be so epic?

Communism squelches progress. So you get classics regurgitated ad infinitum for nationalist rallies w/ lots o' military.

Because they are selling an image and they rely on emotion to keep people on their side.

Exact same reason Capitalism music is so epic.

Because ethey found the best composers in Russia, many of whom had been trained in the West, and said, "write kick-ass music or we will kill your families."

A lot if the more inspired stuff was actually very subtle protest.

I was born in former USSR. These songs were meant to inspire and move people. And it worked! It worked incredibly well! I felt like my wery soul was soaring into the sky when listening to these inspirational songs.

Someone here mentioned that "communism squelches progress". That's ridiculous, because in communist USSR people were HAPPY to work, to make progress. There were actual competitions between factories to see who would perform better. Those that won got awards. Not monetary awards, but recognition from the local govt., their peers and other factories. People felt pride. They didn't expect money. They expected RECOGNITION.

People worked to make their country the greatest in the world, not to get rich. This is exactly why, Communist USSR was the first to start space exploration.

Is it also true that by far not everyone was happy? Yes. Is it true that there were repressions against people, and many other negative things? Yes, that's true as well.

But listen. Not all is well in United States either! Plenty of negatives here in regards to govt. corruption, racial issues, etc.

That's complete BS. These composers were NOT trained in the west. They were naively raised, and trained. Many of them were Jewish, hence the talent.

Did Russian music draw inspiration and skill from the rest of the world? Absolutely. So does United States. But to say that Russian music was great thanks to the west is complete BS.

As for writing music under the fear of death, that's BS too. It was more under fear of shame. Shame for not living up to the expectations of your comrades, your countrymen. People wanted to excel. for their country! For Soviet Union!

Factories often times lacked the resources to furnish products because corruption would steer needed materials elsewhere. It is one of the reasons why in one of the most centrally planned economies in the history of the world had one of the biggest unregulated black markets.

What product besides commodities did the USSR export that people sought for its quality? Centrally planned economies lack innovation. It is why the Chinese will be the worlds factory until they open up their markets and enforce IP law.

If this was such a wonderful system. The people wouldn't had torn it down.

There has never been a real communist country. All dictatorships of some form.
