Why does clicking link return that page HTML code?

Why does clicking on a URL return a page showing the HTML code behind that web page instead of showing the web page itself? I use XP Pro and Firefox 2.0. This happens regularly enough thats it is a nuisance.

Is it showing the html in the browser or is it launching something like notepad to display?

now that i think about it, i haven't had that happen since i had dial-up.

i wonder if it's related to download speed.

the HTML code opens in the browser and i use dsl with a Lynksys wrt54g ver 8 router.
