Why does all anime look the same/Whats your favorite anime show?

I never understood why most anime shows look almost exactly alike. Take Robotech for example, this show was made years ago but yet a lot of the current crop of anime programs look just like it. For that reason I've kinda stayed away from it for a while, but just recently I've started to get back into into them.

Currently I've been watching Cowboy Bebop, Pilot Candidate and Gundam is kind of growing on me

I would like to see future anime with a little more variation, in particular I really love the way the new Batman, Batman Beyond and Justice League shows are done. The animation and drawings are real clean and defined.

my only problem is the lack of unedited anime shown in America, the real stuff is much better, but a lot of things have to be cut so it can be shown in america, thats why I like Fist of the North Star on Showtime Beyond, good fighting w/out editing. but it isn't my favorite that would be too hard to determine.

You odviously haven't seen alot of anime. 🙂

Try watching:
Serial Experiments Lain
Key: The Metal Idol
Ghost in the Shell
Furi Kuri (FLCL)
Slayers
Neon Genesis Evangeleon
Battle Angel Alita
and Vampire Princess Miyu
(and if you're feeling a bit frisky, Hanaukyo Maids Tai)

Then you'll realize that anime varies quite a bit. Both in writing, art, and how much it can go from cute to "what just happened?".

I'm gonna check for some of those shows, do any of them come on american cable stations?

With the exception of a PBS station that I don't get, generally not a chance.

Serial Experiments Lain --Never
Key: The Metal Idol --Only if we pay someone alot of money
Ghost in the Shell --I think it made it to showtime
Furi Kuri (FLCL) --Not even in english (fansubs are available)
Slayers --Potentially on Adult Swim
Neon Genesis Evangeleon --Not likely, but possible on Adult Swim
Battle Angel Alita --Try even finding somewhere with it on video (they stopped making it)
and Vampire Princess Miyu --Pretty dark, potentially if Sci Fi starts showing anime again
(and if you're feeling a bit frisky, Hanaukyo Maids Tai) --Boarderline softcore porn, maybe Playboy will start showing anime.

Why do all us white boys look the same

Ebichu
Guu

I could list a lot more, each show has a style of it's own

Who do you think animated batman anyway.

Lain
Evangeleon
Ninja Scroll
Ghost in teh shell
and the classic: akira

I guess you're talking about shows though, not features?
I just saw metropolis not to long ago on teh big screen .. FVCKIN AMAZING!!!

I think they look the same for a few reason:
1)Japanese stereotypes of western culture
2)It's the style. All impressionist art looks similar, so does anime. If an anime looked like a Disney film (which has its own distinctive styling) would it be considered anime?

My favorite series are:
Tenchi
Lodoss War
Cowboy Bepop
Macross

Bebop! Great anime. I never really liked Trigun. It just didn't appeal to me that much. It is in the "another anime I watched" catagory.

I liked Kenshin, and I realize its the same kinda humor as in Trigun, but I guess I just like it more. I really like Full Metal Panic and can't wait till all the fansubs are released. I'm also waiting for the end of Onegai Teacher.

Right now, I'm starting a new series called Chobits. Release #2 should be on Tuesday.

Oh yea, can't forget the classics like Love Hina and Golden Boy. GOLDEN BOY!!!
