Why does a lot of people seem so worried about DX10?

The game developers will probably offer a DX 9 mode for those of you who can't go DX10 for at least 2 years because there's not a lot of people who can afford a $200-300 operating system and $200-300 for a good DX10 video card. Some people can afford that, but it wouldn't make any sense to make a game that most of the people couldn't afford to upgrade just to play, since most people couldn't afford that, and even for those who can, the "willingness to pay" factor comes into question, and what's the point of a developer to spend millions to make a game and then make it to where most people can't even play the game? My base for these facts about a lot of people not being able to afford it on the fact that first, it's not going to be like DX 10 comes out one day and by the next day, all games are DX 10. Second of all, I can prove this because in the GPU world, most of the GPU sales are done in the budget sector, and I'm talking like the Geforce 6200, FX 5200, and Radeon 9200 area(examples of budget sector cards),and if most people can only afford $80-150 for a GPU, why should they be expected to shell out $300-$600 for DX10? I am saying this because you shouldn't worry because no game developer will shut out such a huge base of people.

Duh, because the length of your e-Penis is directly related to the DirectX compliance of your hardware - so they need to get the highest score on 3DMock2010 with DirectX69. :p

Who's worried? And what's wrong with looking for the most forward-looking card foreseen at the time, for one that will last significantly longer than the previous generation ones, not as little as 1-2 years down the road? 1-2 years is too short from this perspective, and is naturally nothing for those who upgrade every generation. People who are looking to leapfrog to 2 generations ahead are not among these people by definition.

Moreover, the attitude that the OP espouses -- the current generation must be usable for a long time, because the alternative is not practical and in the interests of the developers -- serves the people looking to leapfrog ahead 2 generations sticking to the older generation just as well if not better.

Haven't read much that could be called worrying but it is the topic of conversation because it's on the horizon. The imminent yet unknown will always be a hot topic.

Of course there are always the nostalgic "What was your first/favorite/best video card?" threads if you choose not to speculate on future products.

DX10 video cards . . . how soon?

The FIRST DX10 video cards are due one year from now . . . the FIRST full dx10 games are due in '09 [and those early dx10 video cards won't even run them "well"]

DX9 has got at least 5 years of "life" . . .

so, no worries

:D

Crysis and Halo2 are NOT dx10 games . . . they just have DX10 extensions and will run on DX9 cards . . . Halo2 will require Vista [which has ZERO to do with DX10 requirements]. . . .

. . . and Vista runs on current DX9 cards.

What new effects will we be looking forward to on dx10? From quick memory dx 9 brough, all kinds of new lighting effects, that wavey air heat effect, I dont know the proper jargon but I think thats about it right?

I'm sure the heavy duty gamers will look forward to it and not worry about it. I'm not a heavy duty pc gamer and I'm not worried about it.
