Alcohol is actually a terrible drug. When your liver processes it, it turns into acetylhyde which is actually what does alot of the damage. Its what causes hangovers, its the poison still flowing through your blood when all the fun is done. At the same time the alcohol rewires your brain and destroys parts of it.

Now if I could just stop drinking for good, I get the same dreams when I try. Its actually my favorite part, I don't really have nightmares. My dreams are entertaining to me. Its the waking up covered in sweat not able to get back to sleep I hate.

Amateur. I'm a professional drunk and I don't get hangovers other than extreme cases of mixing boozes, like 4 or 5 in a night, and that is cured by a nice bloody mary "with a jungle in it". Breakfast of champions! Luckily our bars are open 24 hours but the only time I need something like that is during Mardi Gras.

Fun fact: The beer in Family Guy called Pawtucket Patriot is actually Duff with their label covering it.

On New Years eve 2005 I was depressed. I believe it was a Friday and I woke up without eating and sat at my desk drinking Jack and Captain Morgan. I drank the whole fifth of Jack and half a fifth of Morgan. Then the nausea came. I puked my ass off until I had nothing to puke but bile. I yelled at my mom to take me to the hospital because I thought I had alcohol poisoning. Apparently I didn't and got an IV of fluids that I sucked down that contained something for the nausea which helped greatly.

A liter of spirits is pretty good going! A few of the people I work with swear by an IVI and some antinausea meds for a hangover! I prefer the bacon sandwich and a beer approach myself!

You have to pay for the treatment there? I can never remember if emergency treatment is free or not in the US!

Alcohol works in the brain like GABA, which is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter. If you keep your brain sloshed a good bit of the time, it will compensate by making more glutamate and making you more sensitive to glutamate, which is the major excitatory neurotransmitter. Nightmares suck, but they're better than a seizure. And they're better than hallucinations. And even better than death. Alcohol withdrawal is serious business: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_withdrawal_syndrome

Yeah Mayne hasn't posted for a few days now. Wonder if he's going through the DTs?

I understand the joke of this (and laughed a bit, I promise). But the last person I had in DTs I had to send to hospice after not improving for weeks.

If you have a friend who is a medic or a nurse an IV, especially a "banana bag", works absolute wonders.

OK, I don't understand the joke but I do see a few people laughing. I was being kinda serious, because DTs are serious. ...but I'll chuckle anyway so that I don't seem weird. :D

It's fine to drink, it's a problem when you're doing it to get drunk. But a few beers here and there is probably not the end of the world.

Though maybe you ARE getting addicted, I would maybe quit for a bit till the bad dreams stop at least.

My great cousin died a few years ago to esophagus cancer that spread to his brain. By the time they found it he was already stage IV. If it wasn't the shear pain from the cancer or the fact you couldn't shit do to the pills, he also ended up with gallstones at the same time. He went through hell! I prayed he'd just pass in his sleep and the next day he was gone just like that. He was a very heavy alcoholic and due to that this is why he probably had esophagus cancer. He died at 55. I never, ever in my wildest imagination would have thought he would die just like that. He would call me all the time and it's just not the same hearing him. His last words to me, and I'll never forget were telling me goodbye. I made a WordPress website in his honor.
