If we exist, our existence holds "purpose" though it may be without moral compass.
I don't believe the OP intended to imply that there was a "higher purpose" or moral imperative to existence, just that existence of itself has purpose, which could be as simple as just continuing to exist.
It's difficult to discuss the subject absent from the religious implications, but we can certainly try.
