To ask why we were "put here" implies an intelligence that intentionally did so. We are not necessarily here for a reason; we could very well exist without underlying purpose.

If we exist, our existence holds "purpose" though it may be without moral compass.

I don't believe the OP intended to imply that there was a "higher purpose" or moral imperative to existence, just that existence of itself has purpose, which could be as simple as just continuing to exist.

It's difficult to discuss the subject absent from the religious implications, but we can certainly try.

I think it was for my complex cluster of cells... to meet another complex cluster of cells... and create another viable complex cluster of cells and provide it with necessary resources to do the same. 🙂

Granted. Perhaps the "purpose" of life is to simply exist. I've heard one idea that it was to "defy entropy", to bring order to chaos, but that's a matter for debate. 🙂

i arrived, just like everyone else, through countless billions of random mutations that occured during the reproduction of a string of molecules. I am a carrier of my string, and my string has a desire to continue to exist after I die, therefore I must reproduce or break a cycle started billions of years ago. Also it isn't my string as much as I am its survival machine.

[Barbarian Mode]

That is the answer to "What is best in life?"

[/Barbarian Mode]

P.S.

Recite the barbarian Prayer:

?Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought and why we died. All that matters is that today, two stood against many. Valor pleases you, so grant me this one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, the HELL with you!?
