Why do you think we are here?

I'm very interested in seeing why you guys think we exist.

Why does life exist? Why does the universe exist? What do you believe the purpose of anything even existing is?

I just spent about an hour slowly walking in the rain, watching how simple and pure everything is. I'm feeling very calm right now.

The world is just a really complex science project that could be flushed down the toilet at any time.

Because on this planet everything happened just right for things to evolve the way they did.

Reason is a conscience conecept. As the universe is seemingly unconcious or lacks one altogether, it is not outside the realm of possibility that life has no reason at all.

EDIT from my sig written by your truely:

The meaning of life is meaning. You strive to define it, and strive to have it define yourself.

it will be "right" even if the planet turns out differently..

for instance human might evolve to having 3 hands.. so everything else will adapt to humans having 3 hands, such as larger keyboard, etc etc :D:D

hmm I need to stay away from the beer..

You know, it's strange.. because talking like my above post, in some way, feels "wrong" to me. Even though I "know" what I said is true, just like I used to believe what I knew was true......

I think I mainly choose not to think about such things an aweful lot. I just apply what I learn to that. And I've come a long way from what I used to believe a few years ago. Almost a complete 180.

It is because of you, ATOT. It's amazing how something so seemingly insignificant as an internet message board can have such a profound impact on ones life.

Oh c'mon,. don;t spoil his fun:)

When man finally realizes that the quest for meaning is meaningless becuase their is no one to definitively answer it, he feels dead inside.

Only in accepting one's meaningless can one attempt to defiine that which has yet to be definied. Dreams are meaningless, but they still serve to definine what we think we should be, and why we think we should be it.

To hell with that... I have fun every Tuesday and Thursday night this season (I think I strained my quad muscle tonight though)... I don't care about meaning. ;)

Agreed. People always want drama. It's why, for example, there are a bunch of conspiracy theories about every celebrity who's ever died under the age of 60. Most times it's as simple as it seems on the surface ;)

I was looking at it from the beginning.

Just think. What if the Earth would've cooled just 10% slower after it coalesced? Or 10% faster?

Such a thing could've changed history in immeasurable ways. And that's a pretty significant indicator, just at the beginning of our planet's lifespan. There are probably trillions and trillions of "occourances" that have happened since "the beginning" that have shaped the way this planet evolved. And here we are now talking about it.

Amazing.

Why does there have to be hidden "meaning" in life that we must always search and yearn for? We exist, is that not enough? What if we are "just here", for no purpose at all, artifacts of evolution in a very large and very cold universe?
