I have a mossberg 12 gauge, a Winchester .30-30, a couple of .22 automatic pistols. I want a CAR-15, and I'm saving my money for one. My neigborhood is pretty safe, but I like to shoot guns, especially pinging beer cans with my .22s .

I prefer military style firearms. Most sporting rifles got their start as military rifles. The only real difference is the look. Internally they are identical.

Why do I own a gun? Because it is a right granted me by the Creator! It could be used to defend myself from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It prevents government from enslaving the populace. They could prevent crime and just the ownership of a firearm has been shown to decrease home invasions. Legal gun owners stop more crimes than the police. Crime rates in the US are dropping while Canada, Japan, England and Australia even after piling more and more restrictions upon gun ownership or outright bans, see violent crime steadily climbing.

In short...BECAUSE I CAN!

To add to this, it's our right to own. For you US americans that don't know your 2nd ammendment right, here it is...

I own a 870Remington 12Gauge Shotgun, for Turkey season, 50Cal. CVA Muzzleloader, Horton SuperMag crossbow for deer season, Winchester 30.30 lever action, Remington Target Mater .22, Remington Speed master .22, and a High Standard SportKing .22 Pistol. I own half of these guns because they were passed down to me by my family/father/uncle. I enjoy shooting, even though, I'm not a "Big Redneck Hunter" I enjoy watching wildlife, especially all the valuable knowledge you gain from watching creatures in there natural habitat. I also want to keep my firearms, just for my personal protection. I never want to shoot anyone, but if the day comes that this country needs someone to defend the homeland, I'll be in line. Citizens having access to firearms is a very valuable asset to a country, not only for self defense, but are you going to try and break into a house if you know for a fact the guy/girl living there is packn'?

The summary is pretty simple, past 20 years crime rate has dropped, esp after a peak in 1991 (gasp gun laws in canada got tight after 1991)...

Firearms were involved in 41 per cent of U.S. robberies compared with 16 per cent in Canada last year

Last year, U.S. police reported 5.5 homicides for every 100,000 population, triple the Canadian rate of 1.8

About two-thirds of homicides in the United States involved firearms, compared with one-third in Canada

In other words, U.S. violent crime rates were higher than those in Canada during those 20 years, but Canada held the edge in crimes against property, says the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics

U.S. lawbreakers are more likely to commit homicide, assault and robbery, says the study

The last stats available are from 1998. In both Canada and the US it takes 5 years before the figures are final. I'm talking of the last 5 years. That article is an editorial. No links or reference. No credibility.

all these people are saying guns dont kill people, people kill people, but it will be a lot harder for people to kill people if they didnt have any guns. I can see it used for hunting, or at the shooting range. but self defense, please, when is the last time or situation you protected yourself with your own gun that couldn't be resolved without guns?

Really, how many guns were used in the terrorist attacks? I know the answer, NONE!
