I'm all for less conspicuous product placement, but if anyone's watched Bones in recent years, holy shit do they go overboard on plugging Toyotas. Actual marketing lines are put into the dialogue.
Dell laptops showed up a lot in Stargate.

I'm glad they didn't make light of it. In one episode, they got some alien technology that substantially enhanced the strength and speed of the main cast. Samantha Carter was using a laptop:
"I'm writing a book on wormhole physics but this damn computer isn't fast enough. When the buffer's full I have to wait for it to catch up!"

Or they could have marketed it better: "I was writing a book on wormhole physics, but the old computer wasn't able to keep up with me. Fortunately, General Hammond was willing to loan me his new Dell Inspiron with an Intel® 3.1GHz Core™ i7 processor, so now I'm able to finish the book and still have time to catch up with friends on Facebook!"

Ugh, every time I make up a hypothetical marketing or advertising scenario like that, I feel dirty.

Are you guys saying that police departments, hospitals, law firms, the CIA, and the White House aren't all exclusively Apple?

Goddamn movies and their lies.

Dells are meh. They're so common on back of monitors on TV that it blends in.

Your ad actually works in the context of the situation. Go watch Bones two or three seasons ago and it's like they didn't even bother trying to work the product into the show. The cast spews random marketing lines with no response or need, they drive in a Prius and the topic is suddenly about the car's features.

Maybe it's just the writing staff because Rizzoli & Isles also plugged a Prius, but having Maura talk about the solar panels powering the A/C just seemed to work better and fit the situation.

OS X is a Unix 03 certified (IE full compliance) OS.
Why wouldn't governments, hospitals, ect. run it?

I see them a lot around here at schools and a few other places.
I think maybe a lot of people want a good quality built machine and something they don't have to hassle with too much. Microsoft could learn a lot from them actually.
Also, there's probably a lot of people who like to use final cut for video editing.

Really? So what exactly could Microsoft learn from Apple? Knowing that Microsoft doesn't manufacture those devices.

Some real idiots on this forum sometimes. You know a prop in a movie because "people want quality built machines". lol

This really boils down to two things:
1. Advertising / Product Placement
2. Use of a machine/laptop from the production crew which MAC is the go-to for.

definitely advertisement.

something I've noticed lately is whiskey being shot in all kinds of TV and movie media. Watch for it... lots of glistening cut crystal with whiskey... whiskey glasses with the sun shining through... everyone is drinking whiskey.

I can't say it's just the Schotch Whiskey Association in action because you often see Jameson (Irish Whiskey)... but maybe some collaboration among the various whiskey interests to sell the tasty beverage in media.

anyone else noticed this?

There was a Dell XPS all in one desktop in Iron man 3, I've seen Dell, HP, and a few other non apple computers in movies before.

Lots of movies made by Sony Pictures (and subsidiaries) are loaded with Sony computers and other Sony products.

They probably pay big money to Hollywood.

That and Apple stuff is "in" and everybody these days has it so movies tend to go with that.

stop bashing apple cause you cant afford it , or justify the cost, every one that i know has asked me which laptop should i get, i know if i tell them a pc, ill get calls every other week saying its getting slower, or some other bullshit does not work, then im forced to come over and spend atleast an hour reformating+ reinstalling , so when friends ask me what to buy (im the tech geek in our family) i always say mac cause they buy it and then i don't have to here about any problems for years especially if they buy apple care, if theirs an issue, all i have to do is set up an appt. at the genius bar online, and they bring it in at said time, and apples more then happy to help, thats plus osx software and not having to worry about all the bs preinstalled on those hp's and dell's etc. justify the cost difference IMO. once you go mac, you never go back.

Alienware got plugged a lot in Big Bang Theory. As if real geeks would have Alienware laptops. :D

I've heard Big Bang Theory referred to as "Nerd Blackface."

I can't say that I disagree, particularly.

No, seriously, I can't say it. My crippling social anxiety prevents it, just as it prevents me from asking out the cute waitress who lives in the next apartment. I'm going to go read a fantasy novel now. Later maybe I'll identify and memorize my favorite lines from the Dark Empire comics and memorize all of the new Intel Ark pages for Haswell.

That's one way of putting it. I've never found the show particularly funny. Same drivel as all the other network comedies.

Sony gets plugged a lot. Then again they do own their own studio. Adam Sandler loves whoring out their products. Come to think of it, he'll whore out to just about anyone who will throw a buck his way.
