Why do you need to state "Fair and Balanced" if you are Fair and Balanced?

Why would a news corp need to state it? That would be like a straight guy announcing to everyone every day that he is "Not gay"

When Fox News reports the opposite of the truth, why wouldn't their slogan be the opposite of reality as well?

If you are a straight guy hanging out frequently in a gay bar, and you wanted to attract women, you might want to say "not gay".

Fox news has very successfully positioned itself as the "fair and balanced" alternative to the main stream media that it paints as biased to the left. I don't find fox to be anything remotely close to fair and balanced, but it's obviously been a great business strategy.

News is supposed to be facts, not business.

More accurate analogy: It's like a straight guy announcing to everyone that he is not gay at a gay bar. I.e., they are differentiating themselves from the rest of the media which is not fair and balanced.

Gay guy at a gay bar: There to pick up men.
Straight guy at a gay bar: Not there to pick up men.
News media: There to report facts and information without bias.
Fox News: Hmmmm....

If a whore wears her hair a certain way, and speaks a certain way, and smells a certain way and only lets herself be seen in the dark, and her clients are resultantly attracted to her and wish to see her as being even more beautiful than beautiful in the worst kind of way no matter how she really looks, then why not emebllish the illusion with alluring and tantalizing lies that her clients want her to whisper in their ears anyway?

FOX cannot be held guilty for giving their audiences what they want, no matter if it's all lies or half truths. Instead, blame their listeners for wanting to hear lies rather than the truth.

Why would you even want "fair and balanced"? Facts are what they are. Adding an opposing viewpoint to balance things out and letting the viewers decide is a stupid idea, possibly sometimes intentionally misleading.

If you're running a story on child molestation bringing in a charismatic and likeable pedophile to counter the facts presented by an expert on childhood psychological trauma as if the views are both objective and equally valid will only confuse stupid people and give them a distorted picture of reality.

Yellow Journalism has been around for a LONG time.

Agreed. However, in their pursuit to further their agenda and gain market share, FOX has been busy turning that yellow tinge in their content into a whole new color of their very own. Let's call it "foul stenched blinding yellow" for lack of a known higher order in this regard. ;)

Sure, but I hate the idea that you have to frame issues by having usually two opposing and sometimes arbitrary viewpoints as if either one of them is right or the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Like the usual politically charged issues as if the best possible solution has to be on the arbitrary Republican-Democratic-axis.

Also, when you're dealing with a subject like teaching evolution in schools creationism doesn't deserve a voice. There are no facts to back up creationism. If you want the kids to know about different creation myths then include them in some comparative religion or history class, not in biology.

I certainly understand where you are coming from and I am not advocating presenting both sides. I am saying that in most issues you can find a best for you and for everyone else scenario. I am also saying you can just give the facts of the case for everyone so they can figure it out.

My main issue with bipartisan newcasts is it is very hard to change your stance once you have drawn a line in the sand, even if it extremely wrong.

Well cheer up all ye that like watching Fox News. Its a proven fact, watching fox news makes you dumber and less informed.

Its your American right to free choice, choose wisely.

Or better yet, do what I do, look at the same set of news FACTS, and see how various reporters across the political spectrum put various spins of the same facts. The truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.

Kinda of like some mainstream media who won't be named that doctored some 911 calls to make them appear more racist or continued to use pics of a suspect when they were 12 years old and not a teenage wanna be thug?? what color is that???

It's used as another tool to brainwash their viewers. It's implying that they are fair and balanced while other news isn't. It's also there so that they can say what ever they want no matter how crazy or false, but then say it's fair and balanced so their idiotic viewers will believe it.

I always get a good laugh from the people complaining about fox news when it's actually 90% commentary.
