you already have sound coming from either the CDROM or Burner when playing an audio cd? I did a search on google and here to no avail.

I was just curious and could not figure it out.

if you can already play audio CDs, then you don't need a digital audio cable.

You either already have an analog cable in there, or you set windows to play it thru the ide bus.

but how would that affect music in general if it is played through the IDE bus?

I never saw the point to those audio cables either... just another stupid thing that I never plugged in.

Setting Windows 2000 or Windows XP to do digital audio from the CDROM/CDRW/DVD simply sets the drive to do a DAE and send the data directly over the IDE bus for higher quality, as opposed to having the the CDROM produce the music and send it in analog form back to the soundcard.
