Why do you like your favorite bar?

On the way out of my favorite bar tonight, the new manager asked me if I had any suggestions for changes and hinted they weren't doing so well financially. It made me think why I actually liked the place, and the only reasons I could come up with were that it was warm and friendly, and had Guinness on tap. It's an Irish pub, and frequented by mostly middle aged folks and hipsters. They have music occasionally, but it's typical Irish pub music, and nothing to write home about. Food is decent, but I wouldn't eat it if I wasn't drinking. I guess another reason I like it is that you can go in, and not feel ostracized if you're alone for a couple drinks after work. Some places you feel like you need to be in a group, but this place is just a hangout, which I like.

So, why do you like your favorite place?

Because I only have to take 140 steps from the front door of my house to the front door of the bar.

More steps, and a more circuitous route on the way home though.
 
Good food, cheap drinks, decent crowd (occasionally too man bros though).

I can get $2 pints of Yuengling every day of the week and get mixed drinks for about $3.50. They have a lot of specials and often do $2 shots/mixed drinks during UFC/boxing matches.
 
I dont drink.
And I dont like hanging out with people who do.
I prefer you silly assholes. Much more fun and no headache in the morning.

very nice

my preferred establishment is not a bar as much as its a tiki bar...without much bar space.

i dont care for the theme, but i know most of the floor staff, some of the kitchen staff, the owners, and the guy at the register. the crowd is usually mid 30s - mid 50s, and im only 28...but if i dont have plans or just feel like making it easy on myself, going there is a no brainer

good staff, easygoing, and i often get to hang out after closing...which is even better because they have the best beer selection in town, and i get to help pick what they order.

changing variety of premium beer, microbrew on draft, 12 new taps coming this summer, and cheap/free beer/food

Tribes Alehouse

40+ rotating craft beers on tap.
The food is OK, for a hole in the wall joint.
Always a home-y environment, like amongst family & friends. I can always go and expect to sit next to some other beer snob douchebag to socialize with.
Staff & bartenders are always knowledgeable & helpful when it comes to suggesting beers, or related talk.
Regularly holds events & no-namer folk type bands. Namely beer bouts. Where they have a showdown amongst breweries' beers.
Last year for Dark Lord Day they rented out a bus for the event, was awesome good time.
 
I'm changing bars at the moment 🙁 the old place was comfortable, knew the gang there, short walking distance from home. But not walking distance from my new place 🙁

So I'm checking out the new places I can walk to. Nothing great so far, but I'm sure I'll break one in eventually.
 
English darts is a big plus. The bar I spent the most time in served British isles beers, and had small jazz combos playing on weekends.
 
Holy stupid drunks! My all time favorite dive is on Facebook. $0.75 got you a shot and a beer! Us college kids had to be careful to case the joint before entering as the crowd could be tough.
 
I'll just throw this out there. Those of you that still go to bars and drink; how do you get home? Do you drive? I still drink. But I stopped drinking and driving many years ago. I did a lot of stupid things when I was younger...and in my 20's too. I am so lucky that I never killed anyone or myself.

I pretty much stopped going to clubs b/c I will not drive if I have a single sip of alcohol; it's just not worth getting caught. Average DWI/DUI will cost you upwards of $10K in fees/penalties. I will go out if I have a guaranteed SOBER driver. That ain't me though!

Has "DWI Education" or fear curtailled your social life/habits?

are you sure this isn't the only reason?

for OP--most of the reasons you listed are why. comfy, not loud, just people being chill.

One must be able to talk. the occasional drunken, homeless, meth-head, schitzo, fortune teller, jehova's witness or whatever wandering in and creating a pocket of mischief is always a good thing, too.

I am a bi-pedal organism with binocular vision. These wonderful adaptions allow me many choices in life.

fear I suppose, main reason I don't got to any bars around here anymore, none within walking distance except one inside a restaurant and it's small
 
haven't found one in NYC that doesn't blast music so loud you can't hold a conversation.

edit: haven't found an AFFORDABLE one that meets the above criteria
