why do you get drunk quicker at high altitude?

Most likely placebo. But if there is any real difference it is slight and due to the lack of oxygen higher up. That mean you need to breath more which increases blood flow in order to get the same amount of oxygen you would at lower altitude. Increased blood flow = get drunk faster. I'm sure the difference is very little. If you really want to get drunk faster, go for a run.

Higher altitude = lower blood oxygen level
High blood alcohol level + low blood oxygen = more drunk
High blood alcohol level + low blood oxygen = more drunk
oxygen, and your liver's ability to convert the substances it breaks alchohol down into neutral substances.

Because the high altitude makes you more thirsty so you're drinking your beer faster to quench that thirst?

You also lose your drunk quicker at altitude until you adjust because you are breathing more heavily and much more frequently. But yes, I can tell you first hand that you get a buzz quicker at altitude.

When I was on board that journey to the center of the earth thing I drank a whole case along the way because we were at such low altitudes

It?s because you are like higher already on the mountain. The heightness compounds the effect of alcohol OK. Proof: I get dizzy when I look down the edge of a 10000 ft cliff. Add alcohol to this and you might think that you are less dizzy but in reality you are in grave danger.
