Why do YOU do it ??

We do it for different reasons.

Some surf the forums for informational purposes, trying desperately to find a fix to a problem. Others to research a technology before procurement. Some troll the forums to find a topic on which to exude their knowledge, oftentimes creating bittersweet controversy with their rhetoric.

As we post our specs, test results, tweaks, and tips, do we stop and take a good look at ourselves? Like little boys, we show off our new toys, and beg for new ones. Ten or so years ago, the bunch of us would be classified as bigtime computer nerds. Now, we're "hobbyists." Like the redneck down the street with the chromed out muscle car in the garage, we pimp out a box.

Who has this much damn free time? What's the return? What else are we doing with our lives? Do we get laid? I know I do. But I still come back to Anandtech. Why? Because my other bitch sits humming at my feet, begging me to tweak her just a little bit more. She runs hot, and she loves it.

What makes you tick. Why do you do it? What are you fighting for?

oh man this post went so well together with the music that i was listening to. I do it because I have nothing better to do. I'm pretty young and it's vacation time and everyone is on vacation while I'm sitting here in front of MY bitch.

I have that much damned free time :D Jealous or somethin'? J/K of course. I'm married with child, and run a part-time home business building, servicing, and supporting PCs and workstations while being a stay-at-home dad so it's all good. I'm not fighting for anything but my sanity at this point! Nothing makes me tick though as I have no nervous condition or other ailment associated with them :p

I used to do the racing thing back when normal people could ALMOST afford it:D

I don't see much difference in the car guy working his a** off and throwing money at a car to shave a 10th of a second off a quarter mile time, and the computer guy doing the same thing for a few extra 3Dmark points (except you don't get dirty, have a bad back, and have to throw quite as much money as the car guy;))

Run my own computer business much like DP above but full time, and otherwise have a complete lack of a life. But I built my first clone in the early 80's, and a couple thousand since, and don't mind helping others out, as well as asking a few questions of my own.

But mostly I'm here becuase Anandtech ROCKS!!!!!

And 'cause you dorks are the closest thing I have to friends.

I've got all the time in the world @ work (bored most of the time) and I like helping other people make educated decisions about computer hardware. It's also a great way to overclock vicariously with some of the nuts who buy a dozen cpus and see how high they can go "just because they can." :)

Well, to start with because I wanted to educate myself about my PC purchase. Later to share my mistakes and mishaps with the rest of the nerd community ;). I take my TV time and devote it to learning new ways to torture my PC.

cause I've got nothing else better to do in the summertime.....

but I must admit, ever since I got my 17" powerbook, I've been working on my PC less and less......probably because I can't afford to buy any more parts, LOL.

After I finish my linux box, I think I'll be done for the summer :)

Work is quiet at the moment and they said I could look around the web.

EDIT: This should be off topic really.
