Yep the G3 is OSX compatible, previous owner was running it on the machine before he sent it to me. Since he needed the license for one of his other Macs he had to take the OS off of it.

I don't hate Mac, in fact I love my Ipod. However, I don't like the fact that Apple is allowed to monopolize, yet unlike MS they managed to get away with it.

Price mainly and the amount of software available with Windows. I lke Macs, but they aren't currently something I plan to budget any money for.

Sure it's not that most current of Macs but it will give me some more hands on experience with the hardware and hopefully I can pick up a copy of OS X at a reasonable price. Really the only turn off for me has been that the price to get into the Mac hardware has always been (and probably always will be) quite high. Thus since I can get a PC that can do all that I want it to do for less I've gone with PCs. That and I'm a gamer & there isn't exactly a ton of games to select from on the Mac side of things.

I wasn't aware the G3 was OSX compatible.
The price prevents me, but it doesn't stop me from recommending MACS to noobs and such. I have 2 friends that couldn't get the hang of PCs but took to MACS like ducks to water.
Go figure......

We're messing with it at work and have it running on a G3 266 (or is it a 233?) Anyway, it seems to run ok tho we've been too busy to really do much with it. I think recommended is a G3 300.

Mostly the fact that they're overpriced and they run (takes a big ol' wild guess here) 10% of the software I want.

True, but if you consider just how really big that 4% is (considering worldwide markets), you'd be surprised how much money it adds up to.

naw i don't hate them, just most of their products aren't for me. I do love my iPod tho, and I'm really interested in the powerbooks but I think i'm going to get a thinkpad T40P instead.

I've got no problem with a Apple....it's those idiot fanatics that drive me insane. As for why I don't use one? It's basically the same thing as everyone else said software/hardware. When the day finally comes that you can buy any combination of motherboard, memory, video sound, etc... (and not be limited to 2 choices in every catagory) and make it all work like it does on a PC then I'd probably build one. Until that happens I'll stick with my PC thanks.

macs do absolutely nothing better than a PC and whole slew of things much, much worse. image editing used to be all about macs, but with Photoshop on PC's (with cheaper, faster processing), we don't need Macs anymore. Same goes for audio editing (Pro Tools), and video editing (Premiere and Avid). Macs are the computer equivilent of cassette decks in a world with CD-RW's.

I was primarily a Mac user a while ago. But my Mac had problems such as with the power supply and the monitor flickering all the time. Granted, I wasn't as knowledgeable about fixing and building computers in general as I am now. But getting replacement parts for it is both hard and expensive if I wanted new, unused parts.

Two things prevent me from purchasing a Mac.

The first is that I have no use for it. There is nothing that I do, that I want to do, or that I can think of that I can do on a Mac that I can't do on an x86 machine.

The second is that they are too expensive. They are simply a very bad value in my book.

They're expensive. There's nothing on them that I can do on a PC for a fraction of the price. Other than that I don't really have anything against the company.

Oh yeah... software availability is another factor I guess. Particularly, I've become a little interested in various other audio formats (OGG, FLAC, etc)... and I don't think a lot of the 3rd party software that people use to encode in those files work with Apple computers.

But Mac fan boys are annoying. "Mac is better for EVERYTHING. blah blah blah." I get sick of that.

Never really cared for using them. Not bad systems, but the software I use isn't available on the mac platform and the hardware is really damn expensive. IMO its fashion over function with them.

I like my iMac (17" LCD, 800Mhz, DVD) because it has a fantastic display, it's stylish (my opinion), the form factor allows it to take up less room, and it's super super quiet (as compared to my Athlon box..) I also really like the look and feel of OSX, along with the bundled software (iTunes!)..

I prefer the choice to mix/match hardware and software on the PC, the ease and lack of (relative) expense in upgrading and installing new hardware, and the possibility of overclocking and customizing various settings.

Simple... because it's not something I'm used to... and I'm completely happy with windows and being able to build my own pc and know everything and every component in it...

If apple sold the parts to build your own mac, maybe that'd get more people interested... but where's the fun of just recieving a computer... I want to put mine together.

Heh, the reason I like the mac is because of the software: iTunes, Safari, OS X, BBEdit, etc. There's a lot of great Mac software that isn't available for windows :)

I just have bad vibes with Apple back during the late 80s, when they got away with charging 10k for a full Mac system. Only rich snobs could buy them and brag how great they were over people who only could afford sub 1K systems.

I don't dislike or hate them. I just can't justify spending money on their products when I can get something cheaper that will do everything an apple can do AND a lot more.
