Why do you click "Start" to shutdown Windows??

That's a stupid question. It's not the "start the computer" button. You're starting the process of shutting down.

Perhaps, but this question has often been used as an example of a Windows usability flaw.

I alt-f4 to shutdown.

there is a registry hack that lets you change what it says instead of start. you have to do it in Hex and it has to be 5 letters long.

The other downside to having a "shutdown" button would be that everyone would be clicking it accidently.

ehh could be. i did it 3 years ago on my win98 machine that no longer exists. i just know it can be done. mine said "Puter"

yeah, we changed as guy's at the office to "F*CKR". Took him three days to notice it.

On the one that lets you do any amount of letters... could I change it to absolutely nothing? Personally, the windows logo is enough for me to click... If I leave the space blank or just but in some whitespace will it display nothing?
