Who wouldn't believe in an invisible man that lives in the sky?!

I have read through this whole post and was surprised at how many people don't believe in god. I think its safe to say nobody knows, pretty simple. I think people who believe in god, or think there isn't a god have an unrelated reason for it, others like me can admit we don't know.

People who 'admit they don't know' are just lazy and never tried looking for an answer either way.

What I'm sensing in the general belief of non believers regarding Christianity is that the belief if God is something thought up by man to fullfill his own purpose, whether it'd be to explain things they science can't explain, quell their insecurities, or just because they want to feel good about themselves and give themselves some type of purpose.

From the Christian perspective, it is completely different. They are people that have been exposed to all the science that you have, and through their own deductive reasoning, and after evaluating all the facts presented before them, arrived at the conclusion that God does exist. To them, God is as real as anything, not an illusion, and defintiely NOT something to fullfill some void. Imagine a religion where everyone would be condemned as sinners. Who in their right mind would want to believe in something that condemns themselves? They believe in it because they legitimately believe that it is true. If you don't, you definitely have a right to your own opinion.

However, the idiots that do whatever they can to bash Christianity is every bit as bigoted as the Christians who bash nonbelievers.

I mean no offense, but that was a really stupid thing to say.

Given that "God" is an abstract concept (that is, there's nothing tangible or measurable to point at and say "that is God") that takes a leap of faith to believe even exists, "I don't know" is a fair answer. Personaly, I do not know if there is God or if there isn't. Honestly, does it really matter to me? No, because I would not "worship" God in any case.

people see Jesus as proof that there is a God because of the miracles and ressurrection. It's up to you to decide on whether these eyewitness accounts are true or not.

Just remember that of the 12 apostles (Jesus' disciplers), 11 of them died for refusing to reject Christianity. Would 11 people consciously die on the basis of a lie? That is another thought to ponder.

After putting some more thought to it I take back what I said. I obviously can't say nobody knows, but I sure don't, and I think most people could say the same.

Once again, eye witness accounts. We don't really know that 11 people died.

Well, the reason people worship God, is a tribute of respect for a person's creator (if you believe). Think of it like acknowledging someone who's accomplished something vastly greater then what Michael Jordan and Einstein were able to do combined. The reasoning behind it is that in first believing God exists, that you would naturally worship him (not out of requirement), due to belief in what he has done.

I personally don't believe that it takes a leap of faith to believe in God. If that were true, then there would be many Christians with really weak faith, and would drop out of Christianity at the sight of the existence of some presented counter-reasoning. But as we all know, their faith is usually much stronger than that. <~ my opinion

So you haven't searched for an answer either way, haven't read on why he exists, or arguments for why he couldn't, because it doesn't really matter to you? Sounds like laziness to me.

You have suicide bombers killing themselves because they believe they'll become martyrs, and get all these virgins in heavens. Are what they believe in true then? If you think the middle-east is heavily dogmatic today, imagine what it was like 2000 years ago.

I don't think he was saying he didn't search for answers because it doesn't matter. Maybe he came to the conclusion that there are no answers?

I have NO idea how a microprocessor works. I haven't read on how they work, or read any arguments about how they work, because it doesn't really matter to me. It's not laziness, it's me not caring.

Well, one eyewitness account is one thing, but multiple accounts is another- and a quick google search should be able to find plenty of non-biblical proofs from Roman historians who openly criticized Christianity to acknowledge of these apostles (as well as Jesus') existence and death. Ultimately, it's up to you to determine whether this evidence is valid or not.

Yep, entirely possible he did look, and came to that conclusion. I'm just generalizing that generally people with the 'i don't know' or 'i don't care' answer give that answer because they haven't bothered with the subject more than just giving those 3 words.

well, the difference in context is not only in the fact that these guys died for their religion, but that they also performed miracles such as divine healing, making the blind see, etc. Such abilities that can be seen and felt by all your senses goes beyong convincing yourself of a mere thought and belief- it is something that is real and tangible.

It's 4:30 in the morning, and this is the most active thread.

My point is, there are a lot of things more important than who made us. Obtaining material possessions, for instance, is FAR more important. Look at the sky and think about God through the moonroof of your BMW M5.
