As was said, probably lack of energy expenditure.

On the weekends I routinely get up and play LOTRO with only water to drink and nothing to eat until 2-3pm.

Weird. Same. Then I get fucking insanely hungry at night. But then it's usually too late to make anything so I just go to bed hungry.

It could be your metabolism is still mostly in sleep mode b/c you haven't eaten anything to spark it. It's not weird at all, just really unhealthy.

It has to do with the sleep schedules. When I was really into WoW (hardcore addict), I tended to sleep just before/around breakfast time (5-6am), wake up around/after lunch time (12-2pm), play until dinner, eat dinner, keep playing, repeat. It's quite easy to only get 1 meal a day that way. If dinner for some reason wasn't provided/I was lazy, I'd skip that too. It doesn't help that raids normally begin around 7pm, either, which prompts you to cancel more than a few dinner plans.

It was pretty routine for me to excuse my way out of dinners with friends by pulling the "study" card and wind up heating up some hotpockets for the night's raid. The fvcked up sleeping schedule also resulted in skipping most of my morning classes.

What a terrible game.

No no, the game isn't terrible, your self-control is.

Sleeping in is the key. I know when I sleep till 12 I can easily skip lunch as it takes me at least a few hours after I got up before I start being hungry and sometimes it wont even kick in at all. If I get up VERY late, like at 2-3 (I rarely do, I force myself out of bed if it's 12, but if I happen to not wake up...) then I can easily skip supper and just have a snack at night, like a couple bowls of chips/nuts/fruit etc. Probalby not healthy to do that though, I don't do it very often. 😛

I don't play WoW but I can imagine someone who does, being super focused to the game. Time goes by retarded fast in such situation. You can actually be hungry but next thing you know it's been 4 hours and you still did not make something yet. When I was more hardcore into UO I was the same way.

Doing this every day is probably not very healthy though. 😛

During my WoW days, I use to skip lunch and eat one meal a day. During a holiday/school-less day, I'd wake up at 11am, shower, then turn on WoW and game until 12pm then eat. What the hell...

Wow... you'd go a whole hour before eating.

Simple. It doesn't require that you burn a lot of calories to sit on your fat pimply ass and click a mouse around on a screen all day. The 3 slices of cold Domino's pizza left over from the previous nights raid, 2 Twinkies, 2 donuts, and liter bottle of Mountain Dew you ate for breakfast when you got up around the crack of 11AM or noon or so should be plenty of calories to hold you over in the dark depths of your parents' house basement in front of the computer until that annoying ball of light the rest of the world calls the "sun" has left again so you can venture back upstairs and order another pizza without it annoying you.

Seriously though, it might have something to do with the fact that seriously addicted WoW players have really fvcked up waking/sleeping schedules. They are out of sync with the world around them and they frequently stay awake all night long playing and don't go to bed until shortly before the sun comes up and then wake up around mid-day and immediately eat breakfast. . .or what the rest of the world would typically call lunch before they log on again to start playing until around dinner time when they might break for 2-3 minutes to nuke a burrito which they will then sit in front of the computer and eat while they continue playing.

Yeah, it's a sickness. Anybody who says it isn't is in denial.

haha

This reminds me, one of my college classmates did not graduate at same time as me because of WoW. He was a straight A student too. Every day, he'd come to college, was a fairly hard worker, go home, do whatever homework he had, then play WoW (by this time it was already past midnight since we had lot of homework) and go to bed at like 5 then sleep maybe 3 hours and the cycle continues.

While he did do his home work, this one project kinda got put on the back burner and uhh yeah, that project was the only project in this one class so needless to say, he failed that class.

I skip meals all the time. Sometimes I won't eat all day until supper. I have no problem functioning, I just feel a little hungry.

ditto. and since i have a job, i cant play wow until i get home, have family time and put kids to bed. thats well after dinner, so i dont have any meals to skip while playing. i regularly dont eat lunch tho.

Playing for less than an hour? That's pretty intense.

The larger question is:

How can WoWers skip so many meals and still be fat? :Q

how did you go to so many classes and remain stupid?

How do you have so many posts on ATOT and still not get sarcasm?

Is it because their drive to quest and level up is so strong they can ignore the hunger? I've noticed this with WoWers and future WoWers young and old. How the hell can a person not eat lunch and function for another 6 hours till dinner?

this begs the question: How does one recognize a future WoWer?

Sounds like you speak from experience 😉

This applies to anything, not just WoW or video games in general. Many people will revert to odd sleeping schedules if they don't have one forced onto them, like from the need to go to work every day.

Personally, I've been playing a lot of Left 4 Dead with other ATers the past couple of nights. I don't get home until about 9pm after a 12 hour day. The past couple nights I've been up until 2am having a most awesome time. It won't last, but I figure I'll probably only get a few hours sleep each night for the next week or so before going back to bed at a reasonable hour.

If I don't have a job and I don't have a set schedule, I am absolutely a night person. I'll sleep in as late as I feel like and won't go to bed until I can't stay awake.

It's not an illness, it's simply a rack of disciprine. However, if you don't have anything better to do or you're still in high school or something, who the hell cares?

Sarcasm aside, it seems like the opposite is more often true. When I think of a stereotypical WoWer, I picture DJ Qualls.
