Why do women get easily offended?

I was driving to lunch with a female co-worker, and Rush Limbaugh was on the radio. I occasionly listen to his show on my way to lunch because he's usually pretty amusing. Anyway, he wa talking about Dashcle's stimulus package and how it was ok even though it was not really a stimulus package because of the psychological benefit of calling it an "economic stimulus package".

Limbaugh said that the pschological benefit was huge and how that could make a bad thing acceptable. He then joked that rape would be considered ok if it was renamed the Martin Luther King celebration act of 2002. I thought that was funny and bust out laughing. My friend said she didn't think it was very funny because it belittled rape and was racist.

Probably had more to do with differences in political views than with differences in gender. I personally would have found the remark quite funny, but then again, I celebrate Amtrack Station Day instead of MLK day because of the purely political crusade of Toledo, OH's last mayor to rename the Amtrack Station to MLK Jr. Station. (He only renamed it because he had somehow pissed off the African American constituency, so not only was it not genuine, but it's also superfluous since we already have a bridge named for MLK.) I know several people both male and female who are, in the very least, not amused with me for that. They latch immediately on to the superficial meaning of the words without bothering to look deeper into the actual meaning of the statement. Rush's comment was not meant as either belittling or racist, but was rather a commentary on how people react to surface form rather than actual content.

<< Rush is a moron anyway. >>

Wow. That has to be the single most insightful post I have ever seen on this forum. You really should not let such a vast intellect be wasted here.

She's a Republican too makes it even funnier. Anyway, I listen to him because he says some funny stuff and can't help but laugh when he starts acting cocky or smug.

I'm a conservative and while I agree with some of the stuff Rush says, I don't like the presentation. It's kind of annoying, but sometimes its funny.

I'm sure you can find the same thing type of criticism about ANY conservative commentator. Doesn't really prove anything without knowing who commisioned it, more info about who wrote it, ties to groups, funding, etc.

if you think Rush isnt a moron, i think you might be one yourself.

I never said that I did not think that Rush was a moron. While he does often bring up interesting points, his presentation style leaves a lot to be desired and his bias is very clear even to someone as far right as I am. However, the point of the thread was not Rush, and I thought that is was kind of stupid for someone to just thread crap like that. I do appreciate the ad-hominem attack however.

Oh, I didn't mean it wasn't funny, however making a joke about rape can rightfully be seen as offensive. The title of this thread is a blanket statement.

I also agree. I can only listen to him for a few mintues before I realize he is completely off his rocker. For example-today he opened his show and stated that Dashale and the Democrates are not concerned about the stock market at all because the stocks dropped the previous day right after Dashale made a speach on the 'federal stimulise' package. Since when has GW Bush or any Rep. make any attempt to help the stock market? He seemed to miss the fact that the stock market has lost billions of dollars since GW Bush has been in the White House.

Rush is completely not in touch with the real world.

But as far as women go-I made the awful mistake of telling a girlfriend, after she lost a few pounds, that she looked alot better than before-

She is now a former girlfriend after that big disagreement.
