Why do we sleep on pillows?

I don't. I am used to not sleeping on a pillow, so much so that if I use a pillow I wake up with neck pains
 
Some people don't. I didn't sleep with a pillow for several years, and quite liked it, but I had a waterbed. On a regular mattress or a hard surface, it is helpful to have a cusion to keep your neck straight. Depending on the condition of your spine you may not need to use one, or you may have to be very picky -- a friend of mine has had multiple neck surgeries due to a broken neck and multiple ruptured discs, and he has an elaborate arrangement of pillows. If he doesn't use the righ cusioning his left arm is almost paralyzed and he's in agony the next day.
 
well, the main purpose for me is it keeps my neck in line with the rest of my spine.....i get neck pain often so without a pillow it would suck.
 
My girlfriend doesn't. I think she might be a communist. Seriously, HTF can you not like pillows? Did you get raped as a child or something? Urinated on by a camel? WTF?
