Why do we put lettuce on sandwiches?

It brings nothing to the table, so to speak. I've never eaten any type of sandwich and thought "Boy, lettuce would make this delicious".

It's got little nutritional value, especially just a leaf or two.

The stem in each leaf is gross, the white part at the bottom of head lettuce is disgusting. Bottom line is that risk is nowhere near worth the potential reward.

Now, tomatoes? That is a different story, but only if it's a fresh tomato and not the cardboard, rock hard kind that you get at most restaurants and fast food places.

Because sandwiches are better with lettuce. Tomatoes make sandwiches worse. Tomatoes are only OK on hamburgers.

Textural, and if served properly, temperature contrast. At a fast food joint? Who knows. It's warm, usually shredded, and definitely wilted. That does nothing.

You guys couldn't be further from the truth. Tomatoes make or break sandwiches. I won't eat a hamburger if I can't have a couple of tomato slices on it. Same with pickles.

Shredded iceberg is nasty. A good leaf of nice lettuce (aka anything but iceberg) is a good addition to a sandwich or burger.

Because when the first sandwich was created, the person put in a "full" course into the sandwich. Bread, meat, vegetables.

I know that if you make a tuna sandwich for lunch either the night before or in the morning, if you put a piece of lettuce on the top and bottom piece of bread, your sandwich wont be soggy when you eat it.

I love peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches. You may think it's crazy, but they work together and compliment each other.

texture and some vitamins from many varieties.

This sounds like someone pissed at their chick.

Personally I like a lot of veggies on my bitchwiches.

My sandwich of choice at Subway is the veggie delite. Goes great with Cheetos or a bag of Dorito's.

I can't think of any other sandwich that I prefer to have lettuce on, though.

Peanut Butter: "Hey Lettuce, you're lookin' good today!"
Lettuce: "Thanks man, you too. You ready to knock this sandwich out of the park?"
Pickles (from a distance): "SCREW YOU BOTH!"
