You guys do know that Clear Channle owns XM right?

BTW: All the music stations on Sirius are commerical free. The "talk" stations have commericals. Sirius even has a gay talk station, it's pretty funny listening to it.

Clear Channel does not own XM it funded some of the initial money for the startup, but it's owned
by a company called XM Satellite radio holdings. Of that stock, less than 2 % is owned by Clear
Channel....

Besides, XM sucks. Sirius is awesome...over 60 COMMERCIAL-FREE channels and some great
talk radio. They have a show on every afternoon from 4-8 called the Mike Church show
Mike Church Website that is freakin hillarious....think
Howard Stern uncensored...

they need two so there are more people who can refuse to put O&A on the air, while still leaving room for an all elvis costello station.

Um, I'm assuming you mean providers as in Sirius and XM. It's because competition is good for the consumer.

But competition in an industry no one even wants?

I would understand if there was demand, but who is going to spend the money on this stuff?

Speak for yourself....

Let me get this straight. You don't know the difference between 2 satellite radio stations and two providers of satellite radio, yet you can tell us if there is enough demand for both to be around?

Riiiiiight......

do you guys really feel that there is a great demand for this? for a while now, ive been reading about how great it will be and how it will revitalize radio...but from what ive seen...its just not happening. does anyone here have it and feel as though it really that much better than radio as it is now (which is, for me, horrendous) or simply brining your own music?

Still not worth it.

$10 a month really dosent seem worth it to drive around and hear music. Just deal with it and save the $120 a year.

Maybe not to you, but to some people it might.

If i remember correctly, this is almost CD quality music being broadcasted, and with more channels available than normal radio. To people like me, this is perfect... i only listen to the radio when in my car.

I recently read something about how radio stations will be able to upgrade in the future (near future... I believe the technology exists now), so they can broadcast a digital signal (or somehow broadcast in near CD quality). It really doesn't compete, since radio comes complete with commercials, but at least the quality of sound will improve.

The reason there are 2 companies is for the competition, and such. It's good for consumers also.

I agree with Jezo. That's a lot of money to spend for something like that. if it were like $50 a year, that would be a lot more reasonable.

Radio is going to end up digital the same way TV is going to end up digital but radio's biggest problem is that once they go completely digital all analog devices used to recieve radio signals will now fail to work. With going to HD TV it's not that big a problem cause all you'll need is a digital reciever that plugs into your analog TV, but think of all the walkmans, car stereo's, boom boxes, ect., that will no longer work. That is a really, really tough pill for consumers to swallow.

If you have a decent job, you'd make the $120 in a day... And I think it also has a lot of good talk radio stations too... I like talk radio.

I've researched both companies and it seems like Sirius is the better. They may have started subscriptions later than XM (though they did get their 3 satellites up beore XM's 2 satellites) but they have agreements with some of the major car companies like BMW, Mercedes, the entire ford lineup including mazda, jag, land rover etc and others to be factory installed. So far GM is the only MAJOR supporter of XM, though they say Honda and Toyota may join, but havent done any investing in either company yet.

Listen to some of their streams online and you WILL change your mind about satellite radio. It is simply perfect...what radio should be. Commerical free, wide range of music, uncensored and high quality. (atleast sirius is all that). I'm into trance and after I heard the electronica stations... I was amazed, they were playing songs that I had never heard AND couldnt find on kazaa!

With the new Home2Anywhere Kenwood Sirius tuner, you can move it anywhere you want, since it has docking stations for car and home. Plus the best part is that you can tell it your favorite artist and if it is played on any station, it willl automatically go to that one for you. This is the future of radio.

Looks like XM is $9.99 a month and Sirius is $12.95 a month.
Is Sirius worth the extra 3 bucks a month?
