why do we eat one type of meat but not another?

think it's just our society? we have been brought up all along with the idea that we eat only meat from poultry (does that include cows, sheeps, etc?) and whatever, and not meat from domestic animals like cats and dogs, and certainly not human meat. if people had been eating any meat since long long ago, we would be doing so right now!
