Why Do Video Games Look Better than Computer Games?

That is the main reason I decided to get a dreamcast instead of the new consoles. I am gonna use the dreamcast for gaming but use my computer once I get a new videocard that supports DVI so I can run my projector. I already bought a cordless keyboard and mouse so all I need is the sound (which I already have the cables) and a new video card. And I will be enjoying gaming on 100 inches :)

Which reminds me, as a specific example, I don't think I've seen a computer game (not including nVidia demos) at any resolution that looks better than DC Soul Caliber at 640x480i. Now if only I could find a VGA adapter...

BDawg it seems pretty obvious you havn't seen the full extent of how good you can make computer games look. The fact that you used Soul Caliber as a game with the best graphics shows this point. You realize Soul Caliber is a fighting game where the most your ever rendering is a single room? How many computer games have you ever played that only rendered a single room? How about games that render entire battlefields or entire cities? You seem to be oversimplifying things to a level at which your comparisons are valid. Never the less, I'd have to sit down at a DC and my PC w/ you and show you the true difference between the 2. Anything less than that wouldn't drive the point across well enough.

But my point is show me a simplified computer game at 640x480 that looks as good as something like Soul Caliber. I can't think of anything.

How about a more direct comparison... try loading Unreal Tourny up on a console, esp PS2 and compare it was a TVout from a PC.
I always though that Soul Caliber had a lot of little graphic problems with texturing, jaggies, render artifacts, etc... DC compared with PC.

Actually, wouldn't a better comparison be both on a computer monitor? Most consoles have a VGA adapter nowadays.

Dreamcast is the only console with a real VGA adaptor currently. All of the other ones have upscan converters. Anyway, Skies of Arcadia and Soul Calibur on Dreamcast on a VGA monitor look loads better than most of the PC games that I have. But Morrowind on PC blows Morrowind on Xbox (HDTV 480p) away. BUT Halo looks better than Counter Strike... then again Counter Strike is old. :D
