CDMA is a very technologically advanced, flexible system. VHS vs. Beta, anyone?
1. TDMA, CDMA and GSM is consider 2G Network. and eventually they will move into 3G as GSM to (3GSM) wCDMA, and CDMA to CDMA2000. (Of course TDMA is pretty much phrasing out, like AT&T carrier struggle to adopt to GSM and has debute their mMode-GSM at SoCal as we speak now)
2. In term of "flexible" system of CDMA? NOT QUITE! CDMA does NOT has "hands-off" abililty when roaming, that's why "drop call" is major problem. (Found it funny when Verizon's new ads...about "Can you hear me now?")
3. wCDMA and CDMA2000 will merge, therefore, it is NOT a good comparison as VHS vs Beta. (I am thinking the comparison is more like Win98 vs WinNT.........eventually, they become WinXP)
4. CDMA carrier currently rushing their 3G system (actually, it is only at 2.5G spec) to claim their superior in DATA transmitting from their current 9.6kbps to 144kbps. But even at current stage, GSM already has 8 time slot transmitting at 14.4kbps/slot. Depending on handset spec, usually 3+1, newer one has 4+1, that translate into 56kbps d/l and 14.4kbps u/l. (wCDMA will have world wide debute on Spring 2003, that GPRS will has 256kbps WAP power)
5. It is really hard to tell as of now till 3 ~ 5 years down the road which system is better. ( I am using both Voicestream and SprintPCS ) Both system serves me well, but I am currently more toward to GSM because I can buy a really nice handset such as Motorola V70, Ericsson T68 and GPRS, always on, serves me better when I am on the road w/ my labtop.
