Why do Verizon's phones suck so bad?

I currently have an LG phone for Verizon and it's arguably the best phone you can possibly get from them (the other being the v60). Compared to the phones provided by the other services though, these phones suck. Why can't Verizon bring out something like the new Ericssons or the new Nokias? No wonder they're going broke. Does anyone know if Verizon is going to come out with any good new phones?

so seriously, what's wrong with the v60c?

It's just an old phone. There are so many new phones out for all the other services right now and Verizon is still stuck with the v60. What ticks me off the most though is that you can buy the v60t for like $50 and the v60c is still at least $250.

why does it matter how old it is? it's still one of the top phones out there.

bleh...I'd rather have the new Ericsson...

Not only do the phones suck, my family has the verixon family plan and there are spots in the house that get no reception, and there is a hughe spot that drops calls on the way to my dads office. So no, I cant hear you now.

Let see.....

1. Verizon is the CDMA provider, and their closes "alliance" is SprintPCS., depending on area, their coverage is NOT as good as you hope for. (Recently Verzion debut 3G on SoCal, the new LG VX1 phone should be a better choice)

2. While the U.S. is the stronger country, but it is NOT the strongest market in wireless phone.
Therefore, Entire "3rd-world" countries and their neighbors already adopt to faster GSM while U.S. carrier struggle to contract w/ phone manufacture to produce 1900Mhz CDMA phone. (for cry out loud, even the aging TDMA)

3. Many people still think you need to move to other country if want good phone, well.......... maybe you should check if there is GSM carrier at your area. (VoiceStream, Cingular- thank god, they are GSM provider)
You could buy almost any kind of new phone (unlock version, that is) for U.S. GSM carrier. Motorola V70, V66, V388, Ericsson T68,....etc.

4. Again, depend on where you live, otherwise, there is no such carrier that make everyone happy.

I've heard that Verizon drops phones fast if they're shown to have performance issues on their network. I get the feeling that Verizon strives for 100% reliability inside their coverage areas, hence the "can you hear me now?" commercials, and James Earl Jones (Darth Vader :Q ) telling us "we never stop working for you" at the end of each ad.

I also agree that CDMA, as superior as it is*, is not the direction things are headed, so fewer and fewer manufacturers are developing CDMA phones.

*footnote* I'm going to get flamed for that, but the GSM providers, all two of them, currently SUCK, and CDMA is a very technologically advanced, flexible system. VHS vs. Beta, anyone?

1. TDMA, CDMA and GSM is consider 2G Network. and eventually they will move into 3G as GSM to (3GSM) wCDMA, and CDMA to CDMA2000. (Of course TDMA is pretty much phrasing out, like AT&T carrier struggle to adopt to GSM and has debute their mMode-GSM at SoCal as we speak now)

2. In term of "flexible" system of CDMA? NOT QUITE! CDMA does NOT has "hands-off" abililty when roaming, that's why "drop call" is major problem. (Found it funny when Verizon's new ads...about "Can you hear me now?")

3. wCDMA and CDMA2000 will merge, therefore, it is NOT a good comparison as VHS vs Beta. (I am thinking the comparison is more like Win98 vs WinNT.........eventually, they become WinXP)

4. CDMA carrier currently rushing their 3G system (actually, it is only at 2.5G spec) to claim their superior in DATA transmitting from their current 9.6kbps to 144kbps. But even at current stage, GSM already has 8 time slot transmitting at 14.4kbps/slot. Depending on handset spec, usually 3+1, newer one has 4+1, that translate into 56kbps d/l and 14.4kbps u/l. (wCDMA will have world wide debute on Spring 2003, that GPRS will has 256kbps WAP power)

5. It is really hard to tell as of now till 3 ~ 5 years down the road which system is better. ( I am using both Voicestream and SprintPCS ) Both system serves me well, but I am currently more toward to GSM because I can buy a really nice handset such as Motorola V70, Ericsson T68 and GPRS, always on, serves me better when I am on the road w/ my labtop.

You shuold try Cingular's service (So Cal):|!

But lately, they've been getting a little better.

check this out... just got an email from Cingular saying that they're spending some huge amount of money upgrading... as for Verizon, I have the LG510 and it BLOWS. usability = ass and battery life is even worse. Can't even go a day without having to recharge.

Most of Verizon's phone's are Korean sh|t. CDMA is great technology - beats the hell out of GSM, but the phone selection is cr@p. Motorolla - the only big non-Korean CDMA phone maker - makes clam phones, which I hate. Audiovox seems to be dead.

Bah, it all depends on where you live. In my area Verizon is the best, but VoiceStream blows hard. Everyone I know that has had Voicestream has dropped them after their first year. My one buddy had no signal in his house and if he ever took his phone to school it would crap out entirely.

Personally I've had Verizon for about 2 years now and I haven't regretted it. I've never had a dropped call and no matter where I am (tunnel, tall building, elevator, etc...) I always have a signal. To each his own I guess.

I have a Qualcomm 1960 that I got two years ago.

You know what? I still fvcking love it. You drop a Nokia 8000-series a few feet and it shatters. Same with most Samsung and Audiovox phones. My phone is built like a tank, I've dropped it from off the top of a car onto pavement and it still works!

I have Verizon. Yes, the phones suck compared to ATT/Sprint. Verizon phonese are either very expensive or bulky. I got Nokia 3285. It's built like a tank aside from the faceplates which crack easily. I dropped mine many times, and it works like a champ.
But verizon reception in the Bay area is second to none. get excellent service almost anywhere while ATT/sprint is crappy in a lot of areas.

I agree 100%. in New Jersey, Sprint sux the big one. Cingular / ATT is better but not as good as verizon. Verizon is the clear winner in this area for coverage. phones are important but not as important as coverage, to me anyway. I have the cheapo motorola v120 i think it is. i love the phone. i think it's the best cheap phone on the market.

verizon is probably the most expensive (phones and plans) for this area, but it is in my opinion that much better for coverage.

verizon is suck, plain and simple

I was gonna let this pass, but i can't.

this statement is PURE ignorance. In my experience for this area (new jersey) Sprint is Suck, plain and simple, but i would never make that statement on a nationwide basis. there are areas where sprint is better than verizon. Southern Cal comes to mind.

Only a truly ignorant person would make a generalized nationwide statement about a wireless carrier.

I have had Verizon for almost two years now, maybe closer to twenty months. Anyhow, I have had pretty good service with them.

But, I was thinking about getting a new phone. I have an older Audiovox phone, which may not seem like it, is a pretty darned good phone in my opinion. Easy to operate, just about the right size in my opinion (can't stand those itty bitty phone look alike things).

Anyhow, I was thinking about going to that Motorola V120c.
Any opinions if this is a good one, or is there one coming out around the corner I should wait for?
