It's so easy to say that Tyler Perry is involved with "movies that suck" when you don't take into account the Oscar nominated Precious which he produced and For Colored Girls which was recently nominated for a record breaking amount of NAACP Image awards. Like it or not, his films do portray social and economic issues that many people, black and white, are currently facing. You might think they suck, but his numbers at the box office state something completely different.

Many people also enjoy NASCAR, snuggies, and Justin Beiber. Popularity does not necessarily equal quality.

So box office numbers determine whether a film sucks or not? Better let the Oscars know that they forgot to nominate Twilight Eclipse for Best Film.

I tried to watch Meet the Browns once just to see what it was like. Made it about 6 minutes before I switched channels. It wasn't just bad, it was fucking awful!

I'd say 95% of the time I don't "get the funny" from his work. Must be a cultural thing.

I've never seen his movies, although I've caught a couple minutes of what I think was a sitcom he did or does, and it was awful. The best part of it was listening to the laugh track - or audience? - go into hysterics when something "funny" happened. Laughing at what the audience is laughing at was all I could get out of it.

I highly doubt that the people behind Eclipse, just like Tyler Perry, is interested in what the reviewers or Oscar voters have to say about their work. Too busy cashing in at the box office. And you're right, popularity does not necessarily equal quality, but it does ensure another release that can be bashed, praised and cashed in by supporters and naysayers.

I can't stand Tyler Perry. His tv shows suck big time. And I can't stand to watch the Madea movies.

That being said, gf dragged me to I Can be Bad All By Myself and thought it wasn't bad. Very predictable, but I guess I thought it was ok cause I was expecting so much worse.

So you consider Oprah the lowest? interesting...

If you think Oprah is his target audience...you're sadly mistaken.

Wikipedia said:
Winfrey was born into poverty in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and later raised in an inner-city Milwaukee neighborhood. She experienced considerable hardship during her childhood, including being raped at the age of nine and becoming pregnant at 14; her son died in infancy.[9]
