Why do they keep playing this annoying Tool song?

Not ragging on tool or anything, but dammit, this song "schizm" (or however you spell it) is really getting to me. They KEEP PLAYING IT! And it's so unbelievably repetitive it's disgusting. Can't they make up a few more words instead of repeating the same 5 ones a billion times? And make up MORE riffs instead of repeating the same one altering it slightly, playing it a zillion times?! Argh.

Yuck. Could be a cool song.. but it's so damn annoying. Blech.

Give me a break. Tool isn't god! Why would you like them so much? What makes their repetitive dribble so special? Great music? Well, it's good, I guess. I wouldn't say great. Led Zeppelin is great. Incubus is great. Tool? They still have time to be great... But they're not there yet, IMO. Of course I haven't heard as many Tool songs as I have Incubus, so my opinion should be taken with a bit of a grain of salt. But the overplayed radio crap from Tool pisses me off now.

Well that is the thing with Tool's new album. I don't think it should really be played on the radio. It is an album that should be played all at one time. It tells a story. When schism is played with the rest of the album it fits and isn't repetitive.

slipperyslope has it right. Tool is an excellent band. You have to listen to the rest of the album... I guess everyone's opinion on music is different though, so whatever.

slipperyslope,

Good point. I haven't heard their whole album all the way through, so I guess I should do that before forming an opinion. I know exactly what you mean, cause I feel the same way about other bands after I listen all the way through.

GoldenBear,

They don't "piss me off so much". It's just something to write about, and I was kind of curious if anybody else noticed the same thing (that it was way too repetitive).

Another band that I feel the same way about is Pink Floyd. You just have really take the song out of context.

There are lots of bands that put out great radio friendly songs but Tool IMO just isn't one of them. Tool is my favorite band but I do realize that hearing any one song over and over again is very annoying.

Each person has their own taste in music.

If you don't believe me, DJ a dance once and see what you find.

BTW, I like thier music and lyrics. If you don't like it, find a different station or song.

Good for Tool, I'd still listen to any incubus song over that damn Tool song that the radio overplays.

And Paulson, how can you just say "find another song or station"? I listen to tons of music on different stations, and not on the radio all together. It's my favorite radio station, as they play the least pop (as in britney) type music and the most hard rock and punk style music, which is what I enjoy. And I know of all the radio stations I can get, so there really is no "finding other stations", I know them all and know which ones play which kinds of music.

Anyways...

slipperslope, I love Pink Floyd as well. :)
I particularly like the song "Money" by them, I never hear anyone mention it, but I think it's awesome. Listen to it some time if you haven't recently!

RSI, what about "Drive" by Incubus? That was totally overplayed and is a crappy song. Schism isn't Tool's best song, so don't judge a band out of one popular song played on the radio. I don't judge Incubus based on what I hear on the radio ("Drive" and nothing else). How much Tool have you heard exactly?

Incubus is great??? They've done nothing that hasn't been done before. Tool on the other hand is unique.

Yeah, but they're still pretty good. When I saw them in concert (opening for Deftones) I kinda expected more.

Inubus could be near Tool's level if they would revert to their old style. What a bunch of sell-outs.

Ok, Drive is a great song, that got absolutely killed by the radio. But it was radio material.. I mean, look at songs like Favorite Things and then look at Drive, see the difference?

Why would you say Incubus is nowhere near Tool's "level"? What exactly is Tool's "level"? They are both totally different bands, I just prefer Incubus so far.

Perhaps they're sellouts, but I still like the songs I liked before. Maybe The Offspring are sellouts, but I still like all the songs I liked from them.

I hate it when people bash a band and say they suck and always sucked just cause they became sellouts. Blech.

102.1 in Toronto plays Schism over and over and over and over and over again. They're trying to fvcking pimp and sellout Tool or something. Whenever they get a request to play Tool or they have some kind of thing that requires them to play a Tool song it's always Schism. Play some fvcking Undertow, Aenema, Stinkfist, hell even The Grudge..just enough Schism for one decade!!

At least, someone that shares the feeling. :D

They did the same thing to American Hi-Fi's Flavour of the Week. I know it's not in the same class as Tool at all, but they are a decent band if you listen to all their other songs. They butchered the song on the radio, as they did with American Psycho (Treblecharger), but that WAS the only good song I heard from that band. But nevertheless, they killed it. :p

What was that other Incubus song... I forget the name. "Deep Inside" I think.. ? It was really great. My favorite one by them.

They play it because people request it. You don't think they play music if people change the station do you. You are obviously the minority. I love Tool but hate this song myself.
