Why do they even bother putting rear seats in some convertibles?

Case in point: Lexus SC-430

I mean seriously... Haha, can a human being actually FIT in there?

The scary thing is, that picture is about as far up as the front can go with someone still sitting in the front. Ive seen it in person with how far back it would be when comfortable. The front seat was touching the back seat.

well at least having the extra seats would drive down the insurance costs a bit, and at least guys who have nagging wives can claim that it has room for the entire family :)

I have an older Mercedes convertable. Its a 2 seater but it has a back deck where you can get jump seats put it. It looks stupid and I cant imagine there would be leg from even for a toddler. I think what I read that it was supposed to be was for kids car seats. Go figure.

true, that lexus is rediculous. I know someone that has one and it really isn't possible to sit back there. It's still usefull as a bench to throw stuff down on.

But, my mom has had a convertible since I was born. They have been great cars for a family of four. Simply the best for road trips. She never used to put the roof down unless it was raining. I love convertibles now and think that they can be great for four people.

Solely for lower insurance rates...

A 2-seater sports car cost a lot more to insurance than a 4-passenger sports car...
