My work computer is a 13" Macbook Pro (2010). I had the now infamous pink screen of death when running an external monitor.

After a mobo replacement and RAM replacement, the issue finally went away. There was never an official explanation (a supposed firmware fix was released last fall ~6 months after initial reports of the problem), but nVidia graphics were suspected to be at least partially at fault. Perhaps this incident factored in to Apple's decision, but I would wager cost was the major determinant.
