Why do the British still measure their bodyweight in stones?

They should switch to pounds like the rest of the civilized world.

We need to adjust the way we measure human body weight anyway. 265lbs makes us sound fat. Need to consolidate that, say 100lbs to a FattyUnit. Then we could say that a 265lb person only weights 2.65 FUs. Plenty of room for growth as we expand too.

Stones are already in pounds.
Why should I say "I'm 168lbs" when I could say "I'm 12 stone"?
Would you say "I'm putting 40 pints of gas in my car"? No, you say 5 gallons.

Because sometimes you need accurate measurements. What goes into a medical record?

Too bad that pyramid is messed up.

Smallest number should be on top and the month is just that so it makes sense.

Also stones just sounds cool.

I think that's because stones are organic, and most Brits are libruls.

I think we should just switch to the scale of skinny, perfect, chubby and fatty. Less confusion for everyone. :colbert:

LOL I love this. So true.

The metric vs imperial is the best part. I never understood why bother with imperial, it's just so sporadic and more complex for no reason. Metric is simpler and more accurate. When designing something I can put the measurements in mm. I know that 1000mm is 100cm is 1m right off the bat by looking at it. Imperial you either have to be really good at doing math in your head, or break out the calculator just to convert stuff.

For weight it seems the rest of the world, even here in Canada does use pounds and that's what we're used to. I would not be opposed at all to switching that to kg though.

I find that chart to be heavily biased and un-mericun!

no, you're just not interpreting it properly. It is based on the unit of measure. day is shortest unit (single day), month is larger (~30 days), year is largest (365 days/12 months).

It's about nesting.
