Why do studios still put out Steven Segal movies?

Steven Segal, Jean Claude Van Damme, that same type of karate-bad-@$$-type. I just saw a commercial for Segal's new movie with DMX, and I gotta wonder, are the people who fund this stuff stupid? Every single movie by either of these two guys has Segal or Van Damme as a cop who gets revenge against some bad guy, and blows up everything along the way with some kung-fu action here and there, or they're some martial artist bad-@$$ who gets revenge against some bad guy. Sorry just had to vent.

Actually, the reason they keep putting out those movies is because they still make money....anyway, Seagal has not been doing very well lately though...his movie "The Patriot" went right to HBO and skipped the box office....that must be a sign......

The first U.S, where he's the cook on the navy ship. The second one took place on a train.

The one that you are thinking of is "Not on our grounds" or something to that effect.

<-- Knows way toooooo much about Steven Segal movies 🙂

These Van Damme and Segal movies have a huge "rental" market after they make a few weekend stint in the theatres.

It's the rental market that makes them the $$.

You know that will haunt you if you were ever crazy enough to run for public office 😉

vi - I'd only watch them on tv. I don't think it's worth the $7 to go see the same type of movie Segal has put out in every other movie before. That navy one was cool though, I liked that alcohol in the microwave trick

There was only one Steven Segal movie that I've seen that was so bad that I had to turn it off. That was "Fire Down Below". It's the one where they have the toxic waste dump on some womans land. That movie as HORRID!!! 😀

What was the movie that Van Damme tried to resurect Blood Sport with? It was some retarded movie that was in EVERY WAY the exact same as Blood Sport except for the time the movie took place in. The Journey, or The Quest or something like that.

'Above The Law' was the ONLY movie Seagal did that even comes close to being able to be called decent.

Van Damme on the other hand at least a couple of "Okay' movies: 'Timecop', 'Universal Soldier', 'Bloodsport'

I wouldn't watch a Seagal movie if you GAVE it to me.

<Actually, I would watch Executive Decision again...Because they KILLED Seagal off at the beginning!!!>

Yeah, Bloodsport was kind of a classic. What made it even more compelling was that it was based on a true story...That combined with the fact that he had to fight this guy.....Bolo....a veteran martial artist who has starred in some true classics, even though many were for Asian audiences....I love this guy....Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson in one body.....

Bolo has been around for what seems like eons. His breasts always looked a bit funny tho.

I personally have not seen one good Van Dammage movie.

Segal on the other hand had some great ones - Above the Love had real honest to goodness Aikido in it and he did some great Arnis/kali/eskrima in Out for Justice. My personal fave by Segal is still Under Siege, though the martial arts in it is kinda weak compared to some of his other stuff.

Unfortunately, Segal has not made anything good since Under Siege. On Deadly Ground for his first foray into directing - and it was a nitemare. The Glimmer Man was a complete waste of time, as was anything else after Under Siege, really.

I actually read that Segal quit acting for a while to pursue a career in southern rock and also said that he was a reincarnated Buddhist holy man of some sort. Crazy stuff.

I think the guy should:

1. Watch some UFCs and learn how people fight these days.
2. Join Jenny Craig or do the Subway slim down diet.
3. Watch some of his older movies to get a refresher on how to make decent movies.
4. Bring back Erika Eleniak if she is still around.

Segal has been around though - and he is the real thing. He was the first foreigner to open up a dojo in Japan. Consequently, he had to fight off a lot of people to keep his school running. People would walk into his school and openly challenge him. He was a bodyguard for the Bishop Desmond Tutu. I have heard that he has done some work for the CIA, but I somehow doubt that.

Van Damme on the other hand is a complete farce. He practices Shotokan and used to tell everyone that he was some kind of champion. Black Belt magazine quickly uncovered the fact that he was nothing more than marketing and bad acting. He has proven that he has a lack of control - he actually stabbed one of the other actors in the eye during the shooting of Cyborg. He also has proven that he cannot actually fight - his bodyguard beat the crap out of him in a club for talking smack. And he has (in my opinion) proven that he cannot act over and over and over.
