That and support for Jim Crow and resistance to integration. To deny that the Confederate flag was used by white Southerns as a symbol of resistance to integration and civil rights for blacks in the South is either ignorance or intentional historic revisionism.

The "less taxes" part is a purely modern contrivance.

thats exactly what i think when i see it, a bunch of racist

pretty much.

I'm a southerner, and never gave much of a damn for the confederate flag. The whole "southern pride" thing is a bunch of rednecks displaying a profoundly failed grasp of history.

Rednecks are a great bunch, I use to work at a store that a transplanted southerner came in daily. He came across as fairly nice, but he proudly flew his Confederate flag in his car window. He also told me Willie Lynch was the greatest American ever. When I told him he wasn't even American and he and only visited here for a few months, he got a bit heated lol.

God bless southerners they have so much pride, stupidly misguided maybe, but they are a uber proud bunch for sure.

i wanted to hear the other side of the coin

and to create a dialog

What "other side". Most people associate the confederate flag with racism. So exactly what dialog did you expect?
Do you intend to create a thread about the swastika next?

One one side, we have gasoline. On the other side we have matches.

I see you also lack an education.

All sorts of symbols are being used for things other than their original intent. Your post is nothing but the biased crap you were mislead to believe...

There was just as much or more resistance to integration and civil rights for blacks in the northern states. It isn't regardless of your beliefs just a southern problem. Racism and Prejudice exist worldwide.

Yes, there was and is discrimination in the north as well. This fact does not in any way negate the fact that the Confederate flag was a primary symbol of southern white resistance to civil rights for blacks in the south.

Southern Pride. I knew a guy who had a confederate flag bandanna for his dog when he took it to the dog park. Yep, he had black friends and listened to rap too.
