Why do some women look downward when u make eye contact?

I was walking to work this morning.. and my interaction with one or two women on the street got me to thinking about a question that I haven't seemed to find the answer on my own..

When I make eye contact with some women they either seem to drop their eyes to the ground or their head?? Is that a sign of un-interest, no confidence, subtle submission or is their head is just too heavy??

I think that means they're not interested and don't want to be bothered.

Making eye contact and having her smile back is a much better result.

Actually, it's a defense. If they maintain eye contact, more aggressive men won't leave them alone.
 
They're just following your line of sight to what you're really looking at to make sure a button isn't unbuttoned or something.

see but that can't be true.. because i can give 3 cases of when I was in college
and that happened and I ended up dating the each girl for a while...
 
Depends on how they look away, for some it's cause they are shy, and others it's a signal of non-interest.

Exactly thats what I assume or that they're intimidated because in 6'4 220lbs
 
I dunno i was always under the impression that it was a lack of confidence.. because I have no problem keep eye contact with anyone

but maybe that's just how i am..
 
I'm not saying that you are ugly, or that I am great looking, but I tend to look down or away when I see the face of someone I consider ugly.

This is true, too. You just have to read the situation on a case by case basis.
