Why do some people walk around with their mouths open?

Dont they realize that it denotes a lack of intelligence?

Sure if your jogging or sprinting or just moving along briskly for an extended period might require more air intake, but just casual walking or sitting is no excuse.

Am I wrong about this?

UPDATE: Sunday afternoon I went to a very busy mall and walked around with my mouth open to see what would happen. At first nothing. Then came the stares. More girls seem to notice - I guess its a turnon or something (thats why some male teen stars do it I guess). One guy who I saw in my periphial vision opened his mouth and put a stupid look on his face to mock me. It was too damn funny.

Im going to do this more often.

A lot of times it is because even just sitting they are not getting enough oxygen through their nose because of deviated septums and allergies. The body is compensating without their awareness.

Hmm...I notice that some young televeision stars do it trying to look 'sexy', not realizing it makes them look stupid.

The OC comes to mind (even though I never watch that more than 10 or 15 seconds flipping channels).

I had that problem when I was a kid becasue my teeth were too close, pushing my toungue backwards and causing less air to get to my lungs. So they may not even be aware they are doing it as Ultralight says their body is just compensating automatically.

A lot of people are physically unable to close their mouths when at rest. They have to force them closed, which is not comfortable long term.

Michael Biehn is a good example:

Sheryl Crow is another.

Why do you worry what other people do?

Might have allergy or sinus issues. It usually indicates a breathing problem of some kind and the need to visit an ENT.

I always thought that people walk with their mouths open because it helps with their balance. I know that when I skateboard or juggle that I have my mouth open because if I don't, I will drop whatever I'm juggling or I will wreck on my skateboard.

Maybe you should find something better to do than worry about people with their mouths open. This thread denotes a lack of intelligence.

If you're going to guess at others' intelligence, at least do it intelligently yourself. Base it on the decisions they make, strategies, and knowledge if anything... Having one's mouth open doesn't make them any less intelligent.

I find myself walking around with my mouth open sometimes.

You're ridiculous.

Medical conditions and personal preferences aside, your witty comment made me laugh out loud.
