Why do some people turn cloths inside out before washing?

Clothes with designs on them mostly. The designs fade quicker if you don't turn them inside out.

 

I never do. My clothes always last as long as I need them to, or until they go out of style. My wardrobe consists of blue, gray and yellow Michigan shirts, regular striped polo shirts, and a couple sweaters.

for undergarments, that which must be cleaned is on the inside.

EDIT: of course, washing in a washing machine will clean out both sides of a garment, but you said you saw a woman doing it 🙂

consider the normal person, 90% of the dirty nastiness is on the inside, except on the days that you spill stuff on yourself, or play tackle football.


That being said, main reason is to prevent emblems, logos, pressons, etc from fading.

Not only does it keep emblems and such from fading, but it keeps the outer surface of the fabric looking newer. Washing machines beat the sh!t out of clothes, and the clothes rub against both each other and the agitator quite violently. Turning the garment inside-out protects the outer surface from that abuse.

This is especially important on items likely to "pill."

Is that why mine don't fade? . . . when I pull them off they are usually inside out and into the wash they go.
