do they have a speech impediment?

if i ask them to say "mask", will they say "max"?

You reminded me of an incident in high school. I was asked by my Pre Cal teacher to help out with a class and teach it.

So at one point the teacher interrupts me and says:

Let me axe you a quorstion. (yes, say question how I spelled it)

My reply:

You can ask me a question but not axe me a question.

The class was stunned and I was told to have a seat and she would take over from there. My two friends I sat next to died laughing after class.

so your HS hires calc teachers that are also fluent in ebonics?

It's an enunciation thing. When I first joined speech & debate (forensics), I thought my pronunciation was spot on but i got comments saying enunciate. You really have to try and it will work. Otherwise people frequently slur phrases together. That's why you get axe and not ask.

Axe for ask isn't anywhere as bad as the way fuckers from Boston fuck up words. Axe at least sounds like Ask, where Pee-zer doesn't sound shit like Pizza.

Ebonics > peoples from Boston dialect.
