Meh. If you got a loogie you spit, your in the bathroom, so feel free to fart away. I see nothing wrong with this. I'd rather use a urinal that someone spit in than any bar bathroom around midnight

BTW, sptting instead of swallowing a the crap is what you are supposed to do. Your body is naturally trying to get rid of the crap that is stuck in your lymphs. Why circulate it into your system again? This is just ridiculous. If you spit and you do it discreetly, what is the problem? Especially a urinal. Give me a freaking break! :roll:

I do it all of the time. I picked up the habit from when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. Mine bled for a month and I did it to get the blood taste out of my mouth. That was 6 years ago and I still do it.
being drunk or at a bar is a different story, impulse rules that world. I just make little tallies in my head at the office whoever the guy standing next to me is spitting it is almost always some guy working in the lawn or dressed casually, I am far from the cultural elite but its definately something I notice.
edit: hell I chew! So there is a fair amount of spitting going on but in certain situations and just walking around I find it to be in poor taste to be spitting everywhere. Now for me to market my portable spitters with replaceable fillaments hmmm
I agree. I picked up the habit playing a lot of baseball during the summer a few years ago. It was so easy to spit into the dirt and kick some dirt on it. Now there is no dirt.
i've been spitting a bit lately, but thats mainly because of my allergies and the massive amount of mucus that was in my lungs that i was continueally hacking up. I know it was disgusting.
if i'm inside or around people i hold it or swallow it. if i'm outside near a bush or the wind isnt blowing ill spit on the ground. i dont see why it is gross...its natural. people fart..thats funny...why can spitting be funny too?

Makes as much sense as anything. I never understood the need for spitting constantly anyway. If I'm eating something, and get a bit of inedible material in there, like part of an apple seed or something, I'll carefully spit it into a bowl.Originally posted by: JoeKing

Marking territory. Kinda had this thought while leaving a leak at the urinal. WTH do most guys spit into a urinal? Well we're mimicking behavior that in the wild would leave our scent. And perhaps the scent from our saliva adds to that so we subconsciously have the urge to spit into the same area!!!

If you're coughing it up, that means that it's not supposed to be in your respiratory system. It may well be perfectly benign in your digestive system. I understand that the stomach's lining includes mucous to protect it.
Water in the respiratory tract is a rather bad thing. If you cough it up, is it therefore unsafe to swallow water?
