Why do some people insist on typing 5$ when its $5 ?

Oric, stop kidding around. You know better.
rolleye.gif

Thats fine if you type five pounds. And most of the time its not Europeans who are doing it.

Just plain ignorant, and it needs to stop now.

I was looking into my wallet today and I thought I had 10$, when really I only had 3$ because I had spent 4$ on condoms and 3$ on lube.
This is my story on how I cannot keep track of my money, whether or not I have 5$, 10$, or 1,000,000$ 🙁

as previously mentioned, people say it five dollars.. so when your'e typing, you press the 5 first, then the $ cause that's the way yoru brain works...

also you need to pull that stick out of yoru butt.. it can't be good for your health

<< thats the way europeans do it. >>

I didn't know that. Everyone has their own of way of doing stuff I suppose.

Original poster: Why do you think our way is the right way period?

We say 100,000,000.00 and Europeans would say 100.000.000,00

How about the units?
We are so messed up. Look at food, they often say nn grams of whatever per nn OUNCE of food.

We say 351ci 250hp and Europeans say 5.75L 186.4KW

Goober & Habib -

Shame on both of you. Dont you realize you are polluting the minds of others with your inane sillyness?!

Oh...and it is not acceptable to actually use numbers under a hundred when writing in such a highly formal format such as a casual discussion board. Numbers should be spelled; "five dollars" instead 5 dollars.

Goodness knows a casual discussion board is every bit as formal and demanding of proper spelling, grammar, style, and usage as a doctoral dissertation. DOH!

sorry pal, the "formal" rule - via MLA format would be any number less than 10 is written out.

Bling bling - sucka.

now gimme 5$

Well I wish that all members AT to post with perfect grammar. Otherwise, shame on you all. 😉

I'd be relieved to see more members being able to spell "definitely," "weird," etc. "5$" doesn't bother me that much, as I see a lot of Quebecers do that. 🙂

Ah yes, the new "dumbed down" MLA format. Great for community colleges...

When I was gettin my edukation, back when they aktually teached you stuff, the cut-off was 100.

Oh well. I still choose footnotes over parenthetical citation any day.

no, it still is any number under 100 is spelled out isn't it? MLA? who cares? Go ask a professor if he/she sucks the MLA's choad to decide whether to follow the MLA.

Why does the typed $ symbol only has one line through even though we usually write two lines through when we write by hand?

Many professors I know prefer to stick with the system they are used to. And most of them don't care which system the student uses as long as it's used consistently according to one system.

Dunno. I write with one line also, partly because I'm lazy and partly because it looks nicer (imo).
