Why do some people insist evolution doesn't take place?

According to Genesis, God didn't evolve the earth, he created it

The bible is a social/spiritual book. Any claims contrary to science I immidiately discount or find an explanation for... but science takes the lead.

I love debating this intelligently. But just given all the things in that first post I had to shake my head at I'm gonna pass this time.

Anything which brushes on religion will never get debated intelligently on ATOT.

If evolution doesn't happen. Make them do EVERYTHING as if it was 0 BC.

I don't know. It might because it takes so long before you can clearly see signs of evolution.

They don't, they just don't see it on as great a scale. Its logical (and necesary) for instance to assume that all humans were the same color originally. Adam and Eve were black. As people migrated north/south, darker pigments weren't necesary, or could even be considered less useful than lighter pigments, therefore, lighter pigmented people mated with lighter pigmented peopel, and darker pigments found their way out of the gene pool. I know this is very small scale, but I think its an important example.

Why would you roll your eyes at him? Most Christians aren't fundamentalists who believe a literal version of the Bible. Catholics, for example, actually do believe in evolution and the Big Bang (although it seems that a large percentage of Catholics don't realize what the church's official stance is) - it's been that way since the 1960's with Pope Pious the (some number.)

Apparently, your knowledge (or rather, lack thereof) of religious beliefs disqualifies you from contributing anything intelligent to the discussion.

More fundamentalist christians make a difference between macro and micro evolution although i feel like macro evo is just micro viewed at a longer time scale

Who doesn't believe in evolution? Evolution is a scientific fact.

Many people don't believe in the theory of evolution, however, which is a theory.

Hehe, just saw this argument on Friends the other day:

ROSS: Ok, Phoebe, this is it. In this briefcase I carry actual scientific facts. A briefcase of facts, if you will. Some of these fossils are over 200 million years old.
PHOEBE: Ok, look, before you even start, I'm not denying evolution, ok, I'm just saying that it's one of the possibilities.
ROSS: It's the only possibility, Phoebe.
PHOEBE: Ok, Ross, could you just open your mind like this much, ok? Wasn't there a time when the brightest minds in the world believed that the world was flat? And, up until like what, 50 years ago, you all thought the atom was the smallest thing, until you split it open, and this like, whole mess of crap came out. Now, are you telling me that you are so unbelievably arrogant that you can't admit that there's a teeny tiny possibility that you could be wrong about this?
ROSS: There might be, a teeny, tiny, possibility.
PHOEBE: I can't believe you caved.
ROSS: What?
PHOEBE: You just abandoned your whole belief system. I mean, before, I didn't agree with you, but at least I respected you. How, how, how are you going to go into work tomorrow? How, how are you going to face the other science guys? How, how are you going to face yourself? Oh! That was fun. So who's hungry?
