WHY do SO MANY of you bash/ridicule those with faster

and more expensive machines? there is a post by "Amused" and one other by someone who titled his "i don't have the richest of parents" who go to this very subject. why is it that i never see those with the "faster and more expensive" machines replying to those messages which pertain to "slower" machines in a negative way? i can't believe the number of "replies" to messages related to "buildouts of new machines" or "fastest rigs" that receive such negative comments from those "in the know" or "relative value gurus". why not let people enjoy what it is that they have, help and suggest when needed without tremendous amounts of bias, and refrain from using money against those that might have it to spend?

regards

I want one of those Uber-Rigs myself, but I'm cheap when it comes to computer hardware. I figure if they have the money and want to spend it on a computer, the good for them. I blow huge amounts of cash on other stuff people find absurd, so who am I to say anything?

I do see that some people do tend react in a negative way when their self esteem is threatened. To many, their computer is part of their image, so it would follow that they are threatened by someone wanting "better" than they are/have. It's sometimes the old "it was good enough for me, so it should be good enough for you " syndrome. Sometimes it's the "I am Computer God, and anyone that doesn't mirror my setup must be dumb" routine. Finally I also see the "I don't know much, and bought what everyone else bought, and know I feel badly about doing so and now want other people to buy what I have to make me feel better about it" profile.

I'm just trying to be humorous; not trying to bust chops, so if you see yourself, it's pure co-inky-dink.

Oh, and BTW...care to donate your setup to a tired middle aged family man that is forced to make do with two year old pieces?????

Uh oh watch out someone might bash you. Since you got an expensive rig. Me I get bored of all the what should I buy threads. Doesn't anyone know how to make their
own decisions anymore?

prolly cause most of us are OCers.
we like to see "the most for the least $" type of systems ~ not "the most for the most $" sorta deal.

cars are kinda the same way....
you can buy a porsche, or you can build a porsche killer for 1/8 the price.

most enthusiasts would rather build their own, rather then buy it 😉

not entirely true what you said about cars
most people given the opportunity will buy the porsche

I am an owner of a Z-28 Camaro (OCed to 400HP) and I love it, but if I had money for a Ferrari Id buy it in a hearbeat
and Im not alone

BS ~ if you were actually rich, youd OC the ferrari too 😛
a Z28 being faster then a ferrari is more impressive then just a "bought" ferrari.

😉

some ppl just frown on "buying" your performance.

BS ??? I hope Im seeing things

dude I know people who have camaros that are faster than a ferrari but they would love to have a ferrari, its a completly different thing

Jealousy.

Btw... You know you're a geek (beyond all hope) if you refer to cars as being "OC'd." 😛

(And yes, the car analogy sucks.)

I think to an extent it's because you would assume that someone who posts a thread asking for a build critique would expect such critical advice. If a friend I know is building their first computer, I wouldn't tell them to get the highest end CPU on the market. A lot of computer newbies don't really understand the price/performance ratio and just think that "more expensive is more better".

Funny, I thought the "bashing" on this forum seemed really, really tame compared to other forums. I think there's a maturity factor at work here!

At any rate, let's get this over with. *clears throat* FX51 and XT are ripoffs; P4 pwnz u @ Prime95.

nah I just tend to do that (speach patterns I mean)
I actually OCed the Z by myself 🙂

You know, I didn't buy all my performance. I worked hard to find the right settings to get the 3.2 to OC to 3.6 with pretty tight memory timings and a 1:1 ratio AND be stable on a P4C800-E that has some weird voltage issues... not to mention Mushkin RAM that need gobs of voltage and nobody told me about that... I had to figure it out for myself. I also had RMA and faulty equipment issues to deal with on this build. I BUILT my performance, thank you very much.

I understand not everyone has $1400 to spend on an upgrade like I did (that includes a case and parts to upgrade my old system to give to my GF). I respect that. I enjoy reading about everyone's accomplishments and successes here. No matter how small or how "on the cheap" they were done,

And a side note, I don't mod my cases or make them look pretty beyond rudimentary wire routing. But I don't tease or crap on other people for doing that. We all have our little things we like to do, and we cannot expect everyone to agree with them.

To be honest, what people have spent on 9800XTs (200 more than my 5900nu) and case mods (100-200 easy), I just poured into my processor, memory and mobo. What's the big dif? To each their own.

Can't we all just get along?

Yes, and some people just like to show they have money so where is the problem?
I get berated all the time in the OT because I come off as having a richer lifestyle than most so I've just turned to "dumbing" down my life so to speak. As for computers, thats not where I would throw my money to show that I had it. I'm one of those "most for the lowest amount of money" computer geeks myself.

showing off wasnt the point
Ferrari represents the spirit of racing for those who understand it

BTW, when I've posted my benchmark numbers, I wasn't showing off. I honestly have no idea if they are what I should be seeing with my current setup.

However, judging by the howls and remarks, I guess they are good. Why else would the video folks tell me my video drivers are cheating, and others tell me any CPU, Memory, or system bench I post is not relevant or a true representation of speed when others posting much lower benchmark numbers from the same programs get either praise or help?

BTW Amused did you PC Mark it ?

Thanks

Im getting 8000 and 9500 in PC Mark 02
I wont dare to try 3dmark (I still have a tnt2 card 🙂 )

D

Those are nice numbers. My non-OCed numbers with 2-2-2-6 timings in PCMark02 were:

CPU: 8140

Mem: 10553
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm=1649391

So yours are very good indeed! Probably the only thing that makes that little bit of difference between us is the tight timings I have on my Mushkin memory.

Do you have PAT and Turbo mode enabled?

actually they look a bit low if you get 8140 and 10553
I am running 3200 with quite a crazy FSB and both perf modes are on (turbo and ram turbo, but where is PAT ? )

1:1 and half the ram explain the ram score, but I wonder why Im behind on the cpu, hmmmmm
could it also be the 1:1 deal ?

D

P.S. I have tighter timings 🙂
2-2-2-5 but I have half the ram and running it 5:4

What is your FSB? after the 5:4 I mean. What is your RAM running at?

And I heard somewhere that 6 is better than 5 for DRAM Precharge delay clock settings. Might wanna try that just for sh!ts and giggles 🙂

It could very well be the 1:1 deal that puts me ahead. But remember, the differences are VERY small. I doubt we'd notice a difference between our two systems if we were just to swap and use them on day to day stuff and games (if you had a 5900, that is 🙂 )

lol people jumped on me when I made that FX51 thread, I am glad though I returned that setup and went normal Athlon64 route.

yes that too, Im running 212 on ram, but I still wonder whats the deal with the CPU being behind
see with 265x4 I should have more, but Im shy

dont take it wrong, I love your system, Im just trying to get mine right 🙂
6 on ram you say, I'll give it a try

about PAT, where do I work that one out ? didnt see it in bios and I thought the turbo switch is the pat switch

Thanks
Dan

P.S. by the way Im getting a 5900 too as soon as I have more cash (great price/perf ratio on that card)
