Why do so few people use their signal when they change lanes or turn?

It seems that less and less people use their car's signal when changing lanes or turning. What do you think the reason is?

Using my blinker is a total reflex action for me now. I've had the bad habit of turning it on when I'm taking a fork in the road... So I don't get people who can't expend the little flick of a finger to turn it on.

i signal in traffic or when cars are around and i'm speeding so they know where not to go since i dont want people to assume or anticipate maneuvers i'm going to do. communication is the key to preventing accidents. when no cars are around, i dont signal.

What annoys me more is when people signal and then totally forget about turning it off. And another thing, why keep the signal on when a lane is left-turn only? I mean, there's nowhere else to go, so why leave it on?

me three.

I also use hazard flasher to let the traffic behind me know that traffic is suddenly slowing down just as Europeans do. I really don't feel like being rear-ended.

I think after you turn 65, there is a feature in all of the cars you buy that is called "the eternal blinker" You press a button and the blinker goes on for all of eternity. Comes in the right OR left variety! :D

Don't you hate the morons that play chicken with the cars, they are thinking of crossing go half way out then run back then come out again. This one has no idea how lucky he got I could of killed him. After I swirved out of the way, I felt like coming out and breaking his face but I wanted to get home.

Ever since a few business trips to Europe (Belgium/Germany, mostly) I use my signal all of the time. Drivers, for the most part, are much more courteous and follow the road/lane rules much better than here in the States.

I am from Ohio and now live in South Carolina. I was shocked to find out that South Carolinians didn't have to take dirver's education. They could just study for the written and be confident enough to pass the driven. In Ohio it was mandatory.

But that has changed, I believe SC students now have to take Drivers Ed whether they like or not.

It's just a matter of being considerate, if not a safer driver. God knows being considerate has become unfashionable these days!

A few weeks ago I was waiting to make a left onto a busy road. One car coming from my left turned into the road I was pulling out of. No, he didn't have his damn signal on. I could have pulled out, had I known he was turning! :| As he made the turn, I flipped him off. His car started slowing, so I figure that pissed him off. Or maybe he was going to back up and apologize... inconsiderate mofo!:disgust:

To be really proficient at any activity one must be able to function on instinct and not using reasoning or thought.

Playing a computer game or driving, to be really good at it you must make moves without actually thinking about doing it.

I can anticipate your moves. You at this point are taking chances with others lives. I've cornered more that one driver pulling such stunts and called the cops while he cowered in fear of his life and done just that more than a few times!

I use my signals on instinct anytime I make a lane change or turn a corner even if I perceive no other cars are around. Thousands of accidents a year are caused because one driver did not see the other. When you do it everytime regardless of the situation then and only then can you view yourself as a good driver.

I think it has a lot to do with the area and how everyone else drives. I live in a suburb about 15 miles outside of philadelphia, almost everyone uses the signals here and the surrounding areas, and when they don't and cut you off is when you really get annoyed. But when you go into the city it is like night and day, I'm suprised when someone puts on their signal before they almost clip off your front end.

My friend totalled her car when she ran into a parked car.

Totalled wasn't really the best term to describe it. You could break your bumper and total the car if the whole car is only worth $1200 or so.

Pay close attention to that roof of the Explorer. That guy had to be taken out with help of Jaws of Life.

I just got my license wednesday. People who don't use their signals piss me off :|

Good question! It would be a miracle if you got most California drivers to just do it for once! :|

I have no idea why they don't do it, but I call such people bad drivers who shouldn't have gotten their licenses in the first place! :|
