Good job for pointing out that, what a lowlife who smokes. :frown:

I hate all smokers who smoke just outside the building without caring for anybody passing by. WTF they think when they smoke there?

Smokers by definition are lesser beings and as such we can't expect any better from them.

In regards to the can though some piece of asswipe crap through his empty can out of the window on the highway the other day and I barely missed it. It smacked the front of somebody else's car.

Not to mention potential fire hazard. They should make the butt edible, so when the smoker is done, just eat butt.

Yes, I will go patent this invention RIGHT NOW 😛

I throw out ANYTHING thats biodegrable. Period. Otherwise, I usually look for a trash can.

err.... WRONG

"There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding cigarette butt litter. The biggest myth is that cigarette filters are biodegradable. In fact, cigarette butts are not biodegradable in the sense that most people think of the word. The acetate (plastic) filters can take many years to decompose. Smokers may not realize that their actions have such a lasting, negative impact on the environment."

Not necessarily. It says it takes many years. In a typical landfill, no one knows how long it will take and it's far more than a few years. I still don't condone just throwing butts on the ground, though.

HA! 😛
Boo-yah!! PWNED!!! Take THAT Homerboy!!!
HAHAHHAHAHAH

😕

Well by that "argument" then maybe they take LONGER in a landfill.
WTF... thats the weakest arguement EVER.

HA! 😛

I truely agree with this statement, but change it to those who smoke and know the health costs. My grandparents were smokers before they found out the health cost and when they found out they stopped cold turkey. My grandma didnt smoke for 15 years and walked 2 miles a day with my grandpa and then she died from lung cancer. With this info out, people still start smoking; anyone that starts smoking now gets no sympathy from me when they get cancer.

Agreed. Sadly it's often started by teens and teens are infamous for not looking ahead to the future, so by the time they're say 25 and realize they've just screwed up they're well addicted. Since most people lack the willpower to stop, then they end up leading a life of smoking.

ouch, now THAT would piss me off!!!

I'm a smoker. Maybe I'm stupid, but the truth is I never realized that it bothered people so much when I threw my butts out the car window. I always made sure nobody was directly behind me. That was until I read a thread on ATOT about it a year or so ago, and I realized that people get really pissed by it. I've never thrown a cigarette butt out my car window since then. But skoorb, please explain to me why Nissan puts a plush lining in the maxima's ashtray?!

any more smokers here to defend their species?

former smoker here. quite cold turky also, been without smokes now for 18 yrs. i still get the hankering occasionally for a cigarette.

no defense for smokers. i know how hard it is to quit but i did it, there is no reason they can't except that they don't want to. don't whine to me about addiction, ulimately it's their choice.

btw, on another note, i don't think that medicare should pay for the care of people who get cancer from cigarette smoking (i know that this is a logistic nightmare and is not realistic).

Wow... so pretty much everyone here is in total agreement. Im just looking for SOMEBODY to defend it as I know there are tons of smokers on ATOT and I'd bet some very solid money that many of them toss their butts.

Apparently, by the silence, they have no arguement?

I'll step up. What the hell......

Why not throw them out? Most cities have prvisions in place to deal with trash and litter, including but not limited to volunteer cleanup organizations, community service sentences and street sweepers. If everyone just quit littering think of the loss of jobs and other associated services that were set up to deal with trash and littering.
Therefore, by this argument my littering is a direct cause of generating jobs. Do you wish to deny some person from work? Do you wish to put some person out of work, and have him go through the hardships of unemployment?? I know I dont want to........

Cellulose Acetate is not biodegradable.

I don't see what the problem is. I also like to urinate in front of the entrance, yes people have to walk through my urine stream but it's not going to hurt them. Sometimes I crap on the ground in front of the entrance too, it's okay because it's biodegradable. Not sure why the janitor is always picking it up and throwing it away for me though, seems like a waste of money to pay someone to do that when it's perfectly find where it's at.

I find I have a habit of siding with the losing team..... 🙁

Hey, i dont throw my butts in lawns. Just the street. So no diapers in my lawn. But the street is fine, this will not only spread fertilizer, but also help to keep the sanitation workers jobs as well!! Your killin 2 birds with one stone there my friend!

They do decompose much quicker on the ground than in some landfill.

Cigarette Litter

176 million pounds of cigarette butts

Butt litter impact

From the article:

"Philip Morris USA has taken a step by discussing cigarette litter on its Web site, www.philipmorrisusa.com/DisplayPageWithTopic.asp?ID=82"

I dont get this... thanks Philip Morris for posting crap on your website. Im sure 50%+ of your smokers visit your website daily to catch up on all the latest and greatest smoking news and tidbits. It just assinine to say to PM "You have info on your website right? Great!" Why dont they invest some of their billboard marketing $ on these things they bury on their websites?
