Er, smokers who litter throw butts out the window. Not all of them do this as the topic suggests. Why dont you ask "why do people drop litter"? I guess more tend to litter this way though as it maybe seems less dangerous to flick it out the window than start pissing about with the ashtray. Most smokers chuck their butt on the ground aswell, but then I dont think most people would be willing to put that in their pocket.

Because they enjoy causing forest fires, and median fires. Here in Vancouver, during our hot and dry spell (All summer) you could receive a fine if you threw your cig out the window. Same with Kelowna and the whole Okanagan valley.

You are lucky when filth is the only problem. This year Vancouver Island experience at least 5 fires due to smokers that throw there cig butts out the windows on our highways.

The fires in lower BC this summer is also was human cause & is suspected to be started from smokers.

 

They are trying to start fires....

This reminds me of a story...

I was driving in the turning lane, and the traffic in the straight through lanes was not moving....so i'm driving, and i pass this guy, who proceeds to flick a cig butt out the window, and it lands RIGHT on my hood, still smoldering...I had my A/C on, so all the smoke then filled up in the car. I was stopped waiting for the green arrow, so i had to get out and remove the butt from the hood. :|
