Why do smokers think it is okay for them to litter?

Every day I drive to and from work, and any other time I'm driving pretty much, I see smokers throwing their cigarette butts out the windows on the highways, at stoplights, parking lots, wherever...

WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?? ARGH!! (Do they think that because cigarette butts are so small that it is okay to just throw them on the ground??)

I can just see them thinking "Hrm, polluting the air with 20 cigarettes a day is not enough - I need to LITTER too, because I'm sure as hell not leaving these stinky things sitting in my ashtray, because disposing of them properly would be too responsible"

I guess what made me get angry about this is that I ride a motorcycle and it isn't nice to have burning ashes and sparks being thrown onto the highway directly into your path at 65mph... I ride up next to these people after they do it and they're in their own moron land, oblivious to everything. I wish I could shoot out their tires, or dump a bunch of burning butts down their cancerous throats.

I don't know. I guess they figure it's such a small thing that it won't matter much....untill there are hundreds of them at the curb near intersections.

It'd be one thing if the filters were biodegradeable, but they're really not.:|

Because we are the coolest!! Am I to believe that none of you ever litter. I'm not saying its ok, but whining about it in a forum isn't going to save the planet, not to mention the fact that its hypocritical.

Just driving your car to work is polluting. You stop driving and I'll stop throwing my 'butts in your yard 😛

Could be because people in general are lazy and nasty. Although I could be wrong.

I wish more people got busted for this. Like the ranger that flicked his butts in the lake where we were boating. The best is non-smoking buildings, like college campuses or malls. The entrances are just disgusting. You have to hold you're breath to enter while dodging the 2 or 300 butts on the ground.

As for motorcycles, I actually had a burning cigarette flicked into my lap once while riding. Stupid idiots didn't even realize what I was so mad about.

Well, that's enough ranting. It felt good.

I don't like it, but they could at least be a bit more tactful about it. Don't throw your butts out of the window on the interstate so it comes screaming at my car.

I've never litter either and its digusting to see hundreds of cigarrete butts at intersections. Littering is at least a $300 fine here, I'd love to see a cop slap that on someone who threw a cigarrete out.

Actually, I have never littered. Not once in 22 years. My mother taught we these concepts alien to many of my contemporaries such as clean up your mess and show some respect for others.

This isn't about air pollution this is about laziness and lack of respect.

First of all.. I don't smoke. Second, isn't polluting the air with your car fumes showing a lack of respect for other? Yes I drive, but I'm not the one with sand in my vagina about people throwing butts out their window. And as to your claim about never littering... um... ok sure.

Oh? Where do you live that is a magical little place of only highways?
Where I live we have residential, 2-way streets and I have had jackasses toss cigarettes out their windows and bounce in my open window. It's actually pretty easy to do at 30 MPH.
Let me put it bluntly:
I'm a pipe smoker. I don't throw my ash, my cleaners or anything else on the street or the ground.
At least show the same respect to a fellow smoker if you can't respect anyone else.
 
I have nothing against smokers especially as I was one for many years but I have something against polluters be it trash or cig. butts. I see it as an every occurence now,some scum bag throwing butts or anything out there window cause they don't want to get there clean little car all dirty inside. Its also really bad when smokers throw out there lit butts during a drought,that's a disaster waiting to happen..........I'm not saying all smokers do this,just the scumbags.

let me get this straight, people can't smoke and use an ashtray? it's not like if you smoke, you CAN'T use an ashtray.. that's what they're there for! nearly every car has one.

Actually no, it's not. I don't care if people smoke, and I'm not one who would want to see smoking banned from public places, etc. It's about not littering and cluttering up the roadways with your trash. Why is that so unreasonable?

Sure, I suppose you could claim that driving shows lack of respect for others, but that's a pretty lame argument.
As for never littering, I don't see why that's such hard claim to believe. I don't throw my f!cking sh!t on the ground like a lot of people.
