Recently my RAM was fried!!! Well it has warranty but still what are the possible reason for RAM going bad? I had a PNY pc 100, cas 2, 6ns access time, 10 ns cycle time. I was running it at 8ns cycle time. Can that cause it to crash? oh by the way the actual chip is manufactured be infenion. Is that a good chip?

10ns is quite a slow rating... my PC100 is rated 8ns. Were you using user defined settings? Maybe it was another setting that was bad. I also have an infineon DIMM working at cas2. I can post all my timings if you need.

BTW, my BIOS reports the settings as cycles not nanoseconds. I don't know how to convert thought I should...duh.

Why do chips die? There are a lot of reasons: electromigration, hot-electron gate ionization, PMOS bias-temperature instability, these are the primary ones. Running it faster will increase the effect of all of these. High system temperature will make them worse as well.

Infineon is thought to be a good brand.

Thanks for the support. The Ram that went bad it worked fine in 8ns cycle time and cas 2 before going bad I am not sure what triggered it. My mobo has 5 cycle times as 10 ns/8 ns/normal/fast/ turbo. The manual never reports anywhere what does turbo or fast or normal speed. I probably need to call the manufacturer. Anyone has any idea?

I advise you keep your mouth shut about why your RAM might have failed. Just act innocent, it was on auto...
