Are you talking Cigars too?

I actually enjoy a nice, semi-expensive cigar once in a while. I do it for the taste, and the slightly relaxing effects of tobacco. When I smoke a cigar, I know I am enjoying 100% pure tobacco, not the sh!t they throw into cigarettes. Cigars are typically worse for your health than cigarettes, but I don't smoke to "conform" to any groups or whatever.

Yeah, and you don't even inhale cigar smoke.

which is why you can enjoy the actual taste of the smoke more :) Cigars smokers tend to play with the smoke, rolling it around in their mouths, whereas cigarette smokers inhale, let it saturate their vital organs, and then exhale whats left. ;)

ed: die typos die.

Better than poping a vein from stress.

the only reason smoking is 'calming you down' is because you're addicted to even begin with.

when I'm stressed, I go for a nice jog.. and jog the fvcking pressure off.. good for the body And mind! ;)

The addiction isn't what calms you down. It's the drug.

It's the addiction that creates the stress, and the cigs that relieves it. It's the perfect product to sell. It creates a problem and solves it at the same time.

Nicotine is a very addictive drug. I smoked for 16 years and have stopped completely for 2. I think about it still and wish I could start agian. I started because I used to spend alot of time on my own reading philosophy and writing music. It allowed me to focus. And trust me I can focus. Did it really help me focus? Yeah, I think it did. I quite because of my health concerns. But do I miss it? Yup!Alot.

many things in life are addictive... Food, TV, Internet, games, PC... some more than others, each one has its own way of messing up lives.

I mean, look at all those Everquest addicts...or people hooked on junkfood. What about those guys that spend hours on end in chat rooms? Yea, something things are more physically harmful, but in the end, anything addictive can have serious side effects.

I smoke, am slowly curbing it towards quiting, but it is hard. I do my best to stay out of the way of non-smokers...it is rude to blow smoke their way. However, when I'm confronted by those types of people for no reason, I just laugh. I give them their space and I expect the same.

That pretty much sums it up. ;)

I started smoking because of the people around me did. I still smoke because it gives me a 5 minute vacation from work. I smoke the most when I am drinking though. There is just something about mixing alcohol and nicotine that makes you feel good.

Speaking of which. Back in a few.

Cigs are the perfect example of comformist human nature. Smokers or not, we both agree that smoking is not beneficial in anyway. It costs money, health, stains, + everything.
You've only listed and/or considered the "not beneficial" aspects of smoking, which is always a good way to arrive at a one-sided conclusion. Sky diving is not beneficial in anyway by that logic, because it costs money, increases the risk of air crashes by putting more planes in the sky, and people die.
I wish they would outlaw the damn things. Got to hell Phillip Morrisp
That would be really smart. But what the hell, organized crime, terrorist organizations, and street gangs don't have their fingers in enough pies, might as well give them one more.

Cigarette taxes and smuggling on the rise

Trafficking in Illegal Cigarettes

Broken Premises

Tobacco Taxes: Not What the Doctor Ordered

But if it makes you 'feel' all warm and fuzzy...

One time when I tried to quit, I got really constipated, but y'all don't need to hear about that. Plus fibre supplements and apples help that out.

I beg your pardon? Cigarettes are addictive, but they're no fvcking heroin.

For the same reason that they drink alcoholic beverages, and consume too much sugar.

actualy, I've read that nicoteine can be harder to quit than heroin, although heroin withdrawl is a lot worse

I've probably smoked about 6 cancer sticks in my life. I never saw the point of smoking them(if you are going to fvck your lungs up, at least have fun doing it) and nocoteine got me nauseous

BTW. The way smoking and drinking are contributing factor to any disease that is blood pressure related, and Cancer, and long, and kidneys. In addition every time you seriously consume alcohol drink you lose few thousands brain cells (AKA as the Swiss Cheese Brain).

That is the meat of it. They fill the void they create to begin with.

Cigarettes are not worse or harder than heroin.

Addiction can be thought of in two ways. One is the propensity for developing a dependency, the other can be thought of as how difficult it is to break that dependency or the 'strength' of that dependency.

Nicotine is arguably one of the fastest dependency promoting 'drugs' out there, probably more so than heroin. That might make it more "addictive", of or relating to the capacity to produce addiction.

But addiction is not addiction is not addiction.

Herion is by far the more difficult "addiction" to break of the two.

But nicotine is much easier and cheaper to get than heroin or any other illegal drug, which would make it harder to quit (so easy to get). It's extremely addictive + easy to get + relatively cheap to get started on.

And yet people still quit every day after smoking for 10, 20, or 30 years with and without cessation aids or even really having all that much difficulty. A little increased anxiety, some gastrointestinal disturbances, that's it. Try doing heroin for 10 months....then quitting. Try doing heroin for 20 years...and still being alive.

Right, which makes it an easy drug to get on and stay on, but has nothing to do with quitting.

Heroin users know right where to get heroin 24/7.

Let me be the second to say Benzodiazapines, Heroin, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, etc are MUCH more addictive and harder to stop than cigarettes. That being said I smoke(3-4 cigarettes a day if that) and I don't really want to quit right now.

You know, I just got this awesome idea.

Why don't they make a nicotine inhailer? That way people who are addicted to nictone could find a cancer/health problem free alternative that still calms them down and gives them a pickmeup.
