Why do posters who defend iphones and bash android get banned from this forum?

Is it fair that a user genuinely feels his experience with one phone was superior to another is a bannable offence?

Isn't the point of these technical forums to inform people about the best purchasing decisions based on other user experiences?

Who were you before you were banned? It doesn't look like you've been here long enough to make many observations of what you are claiming, unless you are a long time lurker.

Apple has it's own forum here anyway. Apple isn't a very cross platform company, and as a result a large portion - but not all, obviously - of Apple fans tend to be heavily invested in their ecosystem. The same is true of some Android fans, to be sure, but that's another argument in favor of limited cross polination of the two forums.

That said, who got banned? I see plenty of posts where Apple gets its due respect without issue. I don't recall seeing anyone getting banned for praising Apple.

If someone is flaming users, though, they deserve to be warned and eventually banned. Or if people go too off topic to the point of trolling that can be a problem, as well.

I'm an iPhone fan, have a 6 and a 6+, haven't been banned this month, yet....

Of course I have a Note 4 and a nexus 6 too, but I keep going back to the iPhone(s), am typing this on a rMB-the new super thin stupidly expensive laptop that will shape the laptop market for the next 5 years, which is linked to my iPhone which is linked to my stainless steel Apple Watch.

And if you're really an Apple enthusiast, you know that iPhone users are better educated, make more money and have more sex than Android users, and you're already confident in your so critically important choice of smartphones.

if I had the ability to ban people I would be banning paople all the time. the amount of unnecessary name calling and just overall anger that is thrown around is enough justification for me to want to ban people. I like reading these forums but can only take low dosages at a time. ymmv

How did you know that other people have been banned unless your the person who has been banned yet continue to be on the forum. People won't be banned if they didn't comment something offensive to others or have broke a rule to the forum.

I don't know if this thread started in OT and got move into MD&G, but regardless remember:
Don't use words like 'retards', or 'fanboys' in this subforum, it's offensive, only serves to rankle people, and absolutely does not advance the discussion. And having a discussion about which phone/tablet/OS is better is absolutely what this forum is for. This is a blanket warning for everyone, and offenses after this point will start getting points.

To be fair, there aren't any paid Apple shills I've ever heard of, some serious and perhaps misguided enthusiasts, but not real paid shills like Samsung has been proven to use.

Like I said, I call myself a fan, but honestly, some threads in the Apple specific websites make me scratch my chin and ponder how silly the arguments can get, but I see it from Android, BlackBerry, et al too.

I'll tell you this, if any of the "Samsung Knights" show up here it's game on. Those guys are far worse than the NVidia guys were a few years back. If anyone gets banned for being a rabid fanboy it'll be one of them.

Samsung AstroTurfing isn't as easy as its made out to be. On one side (aka the side you primarily would go after) you have to compare to the excellent iPhone. But on the other side the really serious Android enthusiasts (aka the equivalent of the people willing to go to eWar for the honor of iPhones) don't want anything to do with your devices because of Touchwiz and updates. You basically have to argue for the benefit to the common non-techy person who opinion carries no weight on a tech forum.

I feel for those Samsung knights. That is a hard position to take even if they have the best phone on the market. At least an Nvidia fanboy doesn't have to deal with that because if you are buying a GPU you are at least mildly techy. If not that would be PS4 money instead.

I haven't banned anyone on this forum ever. Zero bans. I have infracted people and those infractions resulted in "vacations" for those individuals, but none were perma-bans that I'm aware of.

I certainly do not take sides in the whole Android vs. iOS debate. I see my role as promoting civil technical discussion.

If you think either TheStu or I are not acting impartial or inappropriately as moderators, I would encourage you to Private Message whichever us you are not complaining about. If you think the two of us are somehow both acting like jerks - we have never actually met each other by the way - then post to Forum Issues.

I'm tempted to move this thread to Forum Issues - except that I'm sure some people would think I'm trying to censor criticism... :)
