Why do people wear their shoes in their homes?

Where do you people live where you're constantly walking through poop, tracking poop through your house, wallowing in poop, etc?
I leave my shoes on when I'm in the house, because my home is not surrounded by a moat of poop, apparantly contrary to many posters in this thread.
I actually do things around and outside of my house, so today, for example, I was in and out about 50 times. We have hardwood floors, so perhaps I'll run the vacuum for about 5 minutes later tonight? I'm not taking my damn shoes on and off 50 times, because I don't have OCD, and I'm not surrounded by pools of molten poop.

fecal matter is pretty much everywhere, not just from us, but from animals, insects..etc. So basically you carried in and out all kinds of fecal matter into your home all day it seems. I don't think OP really meant visually large lumps of poo on your shoes but then again, i forget where i'm at sometimes....:whiste:

If you leave your property line you have no control over what could be on the ground. People walk their dogs, let them crap on the sidewalk and don't pick it up, birds poop. People vomit because they get a sudden flu while walking (I've had the flu hit me that fast before, one minute you're 100% next minute you are puking your guts out) there is a lot of things that can go on to make public environments dirty. And of course some of it may be physical dirt you can see such as when one of these things is fresh.

And dirt aside, when walking outside in winter or in summer when it's raining you will track snow/water throughout the whole house if you don't take off your shoes. This snow melts and it's very annoying to step in random water land mines with socks for normal people who don't leave their shoes on. Not to mention it's bad for the floor for it to stay wet like this. Especially hardwood. Shoes will also scratch up your floors due to the sand that may be stuck under them.

So now in addition to a sea of neverending poop, I also need to worry about random projectile vomiting as I'm walking down the street? My God, maybe I should just never leave the house, it all sounds so frightening out there. How do you guys interact with the general population, what with all this poop and vomit everywhere? Do you have special cars with special ventilation systems? Do you have some sort of portable HEPA filtration system that keeps all the poop and vomit away from you in your travels? I must live in the best neighborhood in in the history of the world, because my hardwood floors are not scratched or dirty, and I do not seem to see any piles of poop or vomit at all! Amazing! I guess I'll just consider myself lucky and move on to worrying about something that actually matters.

Edit: I will say that I sometimes do take my shoes off. When there's rain/snow/mud in the yard, for example. But even then, I take my outside shoes off, and put my inside shoes on. It's much more comfortable for me to have shoes on. Better support, better traction, less likely to stub toes, drop things on feet, etc. I'm usually doing something inside. If I were literally going to be flopped on the couch doing nothing all day, I may put some real thick socks on and be OK with that. But normally I'd be wearing something supportive on my feet while indoors, regardless of what I was doing. We also have dogs that are in and out all day, and they do not wear shoes the last time I checked, so that just adds to the pointlessness of me taking my shoes on and off everytime I go in and out. The wife is actually a borderline OCD clean nut, and even she does not normally take her shoes off, except during the above noted conditions.

can't stay too sanitized, germs helps keep the immune system up.

best answer ever to the OP haha.

Basically, sidewalks aren't that dirty. Someone puked, then it rained, etc. Time makes a difference. To be ridiculous... Are you scared of dinosaur vomit?

Did you know the water you drink was probably pooped out of a dinosaur a million years ago? (not peed, that was not a mistake... pooped)

Despite what you think, a sun-baked sidewalk is not a very friendly environment to bacteria, nor is the bottom of your shoe.

american like to wear shoes in house almost 24/7

i always take off my shoes off near the door before coming in. i wear a shoes mainly for indoor. i dont like walking bare foot in kitchen, it make my foot black. i take off shoes when im laying back around the house.... i ony wear kitchen-made shoes for going t kitchen and outdoor-made shoes when i go outside.

outdoor theres alot of germs. you walk in pavement and sometimes theres human spit... you step on it... walk in the house ewww. or step in dried dog/cat poop.... come home walk in house... ewwww

im kindda hippocrit.... when i go to a friend house for a quick trip or something i dont like to take off my shoes. theres a time i walk into a friend of friend that im not very close to... and i didnt take off my shoes.... i just wlak in and sit in the living room..... all the member in the house look at my feet but didnt say anything. they are asians that likely to have rules about taking off shoes in the living room. it was just a quick trip! why would i take it off! my socks is smelly too sometimes.

Its silly to focus on wearing shoes in the house when your pets lick their all over down there and then your face. Also, unless you are wearing gloves all of the time then you are picking up just as bad germs from anyone you hug, kiss, shake hands with, etc.

So, enjoy your comfort knowing you've finally tried to control one of the may means to get your tongue catered to by your pets butt.

It's not really about germs though, it's about visible dirt. Sand, potential feces/puke, food that was thrown on the ground etc. That and comfort. It's more comfortable being in just socks then socks and shoes. It's also nice to walk around your house without stepping in sand or having to clean the floors every single day.

OP is right, but it depends on region. The more barbaric southerners are more apt to say "you can leave your shoes on" when you visit their home, whereas the more north you get the more it's frowned upon. This is ostensibly due to more snow in the north but in reality because the people were not raised in barns as often.

Shoes are uncomfortable indoors and do track filth around. They are stupid. Japan knows this the country over and it is sad some in the West don't.

I never realized that you were a dick.

I don't want mud, leaves and snow/rain tracked all over my house so I take my shoes off. Not to mention I can't put my feet up on the couch or table without getting crap from outside all over them. And its noisy as hell when everyone is stomping around with shoes on. Plus I hate wearing shoes to begin with, they make my feet uncomfortable. My inlaws wear the shoes in from outside and their floors are only clean for maybe a couple hours after they've been mopped. They live in the country so mud tracks in easier.

The only exception is when I'm working on something and going in and out a million times. Then its easier to just clean the floor afterwards.

I find it amusing some are suggesting that constant steam cleanings save more time then just taking your shoes off.

Anyway you apes can do whatever you like, but if you go to some one's house that they don't wear shoes in please take yours off as well.

I agree. These apish barbarians wearing shoes inside are silly if they think getting a steam cleaner is quicker than taking shoes off and not making a mess in the first place.

These damn dirty shoe wearing apes must be filthy all over. I have a mind to make any known such don a full bunny/hazmat suit at the door before entering. Indeed, it might be best before entering their wallows. D:
